If you spent a significant amount of time with the beta, this probably isn't what you want to hear.
During the Destiny beta test, developer Bungie said they weren't sure if the progress of participants would transfer over to the full version.
Well, now they've got the answer, and it's "no." As they revealed in a news post at Bungie's website , you'll have to bid a fond farewell to the Guardian you built up in the beta. Designer Tyson Green says things have simply changed too much:
"The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there's no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst."
We certainly don't want "broken." Broken is bad. Besides, we only had ten days to fiddle around with Destiny ; how far could people have advanced? …or is that just a silly question to ask, considering the amount of time some players spend with such games?
Related Game(s): Destiny
I have no problem with this at all. It was a free Beta meant to help Bungie and great marketing for them as well. The game was so good; no problem playing it again with new character 🙂
I figured the characters would get wiped but why hold all those Iron Banner events if we couldn't even keep those rewards? Guessed those would at least carry over.
Really hope those experience tweaks means that killing a Level 11 Fallen won't give the same experience as killing a Level 2…..

Probably too many database changes that houses character data and progress.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Trophy issue either. Many games that have patched in Trophy support (early PS3 games) required a fresh start.
I was upset when I first heard this. Now after thinking about it, I'm okay with it. I'd rather start fresh anyway.
Anyone who is surprised by this can't possibly have played a beta of a similar game before.
Go check the Destiny forum, the amount of kids who were totally heart broken by this news is ridiculous.
I guess it stings the first time.
It's pathetic how many people are whining about "putting in all that hard work for nothing."
Not surprising. Most betas don't have carryovers so I wasn't expecting anything I did to matter WRT the retail launch.
Wouldn't bother me.
Every phase of Beta and Alpha in FFXIV erased your data, as well, except for the final beta phase, which was a week or two before release.
Honestly speaking — I only played it once.
I bought The Last of Us Remastered this Saturday and honestly speaking it's amazing. Not taking anything away from Destiny, but I feel like I've been there done that. After TLoU I'll jump into Far Cry 4.
Lol, Far Cry 4 is totally been there done that. Though yes the Last of Us is a gem on the PS4. Glad you are enjoying it.
…..and if you played TLoU already on PS3 then THAT should feel "been there, done that, as well"
I'm not sure did he state that he played it on PS3 before temjin? I don't think he did. Trying to hard I'd say.
The alpha and the beta gave me the chance to test all 3 character types. Now I can go into the full game knowing exactly who I want to play as first.

I expected this to happen from the very start. The Alpha and Beta were both builds of the game from many months before we played them.
The depressing thing, is the sheer amount of people that EXPECTED their characters to carry over, and the sheer number of people on the Destiny forum who were creating countless threads with huge rants about how stupid it is to wipe the Beta characters, and why they should keep their data. Most of these guys are the ones who spent the entire 10 days playing the Beta every possible second.
