Uncharted 4 Will Let Us See “Who Nathan Drake Really Is”

Uncharted has never just been about the gameplay. The story is always a big part of the experience.

And we might get the best narrative yet in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End . As co-director Neil Druckmann told MCV in a recent interview, the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive will be "more personal."

In the past, the studio made it plain that despite the obvious darkness of The Last Of Us and that Uncharted 4 teaser trailer, A Thief's End will retain the franchise's bright, airy adventure style. It will also focus heavily on the protagonist. Said Druckmann:

"We've learned a lot about how we tell stories through interactivity with The Last of Us and there are lessons that we're applying to Uncharted 4. It's about finding that right balance for Uncharted–it's definitely not going to be The Last of Us. But we are trying to make it more personal this time and see how much we can delve into who Nathan Drake really is, and what kind of effect this journey has on him and the people around him."

However, just because it'll be a little more personal doesn't mean it'll be all chick-flick-y. Druckmann says the game will undoubtedly hold that "summer movie blockbuster" atmosphere and as he said, " Uncharted is about fun, charming characters and set pieces." I would agree with that and I'm very interested to see how Naughty Dog displays more of their storytelling ability. We saw it in TLoU; to have that more emotional, personal feel in Uncharted wouldn't be unwelcome at all.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will arrive sometime next year.

Sounds good to me, I think there's good room there to discover who he really is after we learned from Uncharted 3 that there's a lot of gusto and claims of tall tails surrounding Nathan that overlay someone who isn't exactly the person he pretends to be through his humorous bravado.

I've always loved Drake, so I'm diggin this news. I do really want to find out more about him, maybe learn about past mistakes a little more.

As I said before, although Uncharted has never had a dark atmosphere, which is perfectly fine, I wouldn't mind a slightly darker tone to "A Thief's End", not at all.

Who Nathan Drake really is?

Considering the original writer of Nathan Drake from Uncharted 1-3, Amy Hennig, is no longer with Naughty Dog…NOPE! Too easy!

Going to play the hell out of this one. I hope crushing difficulty is unlocked from the start because these games are too easy.

one thing ND really need to work on, especially background story telling.
one thing always really hurt the believeability of their stories.
like uncharted 2 and chloe and drake and the evil bad guy, they have a long past and the games constantly referring to that but never fills you in on it, REALLY gets annoying!
or even TLoU never fills in joles past, nor tess past, nor bills past.
it adds so much to the believeability of the world and story to have a solid background.
wish ND would finally realize that!
