Thus far, we haven't seen it. Let's be honest.
But there's nothing wrong with that and besides, it's to be expected. The PlayStation 4 has only been available for less than nine months; we shouldn't anticipate any definitive titles in that span.
But looking down the road, which big-time title will be the first to showcase the system's considerable power? Which game will drop everyone's jaws and make them say, "now that's next-gen!" "Next-gen" is a very subjective term – definitions vary widely from gamer to gamer – but we all believe that when we see it, we'll know it. And chances are, we need to wait for an exclusive title before we react in such a fashion.
This year's Assassin's Creed: Unity should be amazing, of course, but next year is where it's at: The Order: 1886 , Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Bloodborne , just to name a few. Given the latter's late-March date (if it holds), that's the one that will emerge first, so perhaps it'll be the first to blow us all away. If you don't believe that, how much longer do you think we'll have to wait?
You said Bloodborne again. I'm getting more and more proud.
And anything from Naughty Dog or Guerrilla Games.
Bloooodbone!
I thought KZSF and ISS were very good graphically. However, I have to agree that with more time and no deadline looming in regards to the PS4 being released that future PS4 games will look better. Once they have figured out how to unlock the true power the sky is the limit. Even though with the X86 architecture it won't take as long as it did to figure out the cell. 2015 is looking to be the definitive year for the true "Next Gen". My guess, this is going to come down to the developer and the tricks they develop. I would put money down that Uncharted 4 A Theif's End will be the defining graphical game on the PS4. The Last of Us Remastered has already helped them understand the PS4 more intimately.
I have no doubt that Naughty Dog will produce a marquee title.
That said I think there will be a new IP that will showcase the power of the PS4. And this title will do so in every facet of gaming. Story, immersion and graphics. This is what I am looking for. What I am waiting for. Who will create it? Time will tell.

I still say we will see the first glimmer of what's coming from The Order, I'm expecting some personal gamer impact feelings from those soft physics.
I have to agree. Those soft physics are sure to please and the game looks incredible. I'm hoping for great things from this one.
CD Project Red has already stated they've maxed the console out though. So Witcher may be the first in February. we shall see.
I hope Witcher surprises me but if it's the same kind of things with just better graphics I may have minor disappointment. I'm lookin for something that says "this wasn't done this way before" or "This advances something from before"
The Order and Uncharted 4.
I'm sure we're in for a long road of improvements as the years pass.
The distance between something like Perfect Dark and Halo 4 is pretty incredible and the span of time between those was like 7 years. And this was on so-called "easy to program for" hardware.
uncharted 4.
gran turismo 7, hoping its not just gt6 polished.
like you said, during spring is when we can start seeing some wow factors.
If we now only talk about visual impact (something I strongly disagree with, but that's a different discussion) I'd say Naughty Dog is a safe bet.
if the one of the state titles in the article doesn't do it then idk any one got any ideas.
happy gaming
Still can't wait to what GG is up to and I kind of miss the old days when MGS4 was a PS exclusive. That gem was a mile stone in the PS3s capabilities. Not the last one, but maybe the first.
Agreed MSG4 was maybe the best ps3 game, played it about 20 times in a row, some will disagree and say (last of us or uncharted) but no MGS4 did it for me. I really dought we will see anything like that on PS4..
MGS4 was one of my top three PS3 games along with The Last of Us and Heavy Rain.
No one thinks Driveclub looks good?
Either uncharted or gt7 for me. Gt6 did crazier things with the ps3 than naughty dog did in technical terms (look it up), so I expect gt7 to look the most life like which in turn would give us more wow factor. But because it's a racing game n other is action adventure the general wow factor may lean towards uncharted. Personally the order already looks really good, but I think naughty dog will one up them the same way pd may do to Driveclub.
GT7 will hopefully retain the grand scheme of realism. I was really pissed when people whined about gt6's graphics. The new lighting model did some unbelievable justice in comparison to gt5.
I do foresee GT7 having a greater emphasis on graphics and sound. What was offered in gt6 regarding physics was pretty Damn amazing! Evolving their physics model to implement other real world factors (temp, humidity, wind direction, and surface temps) would create a sim that's untouchable by the competition. I can't wait!
i think it will be a non-exclusive game, the witcher 3 with super grapics but also a huge and enjoyable open world
see thats the thing, will a non exclusive/multiplatform game really make the ps4 shine? if the game isnt catered to the machine, then how will we see its true form.
I don't know, Ben. I was delighted by every game on launch day, and that's even after being slightly spoiled from PC gaming which has been "next gen" for a good number of years already. I couldn't even personally say that when the PS3 was released. Motorstorm did look next gen, and Resistance was cool, but it wasn't until the summer of the year after that Uncharted was released (which went under the radar)…and even then I remember it getting something like a 9.4 here.
I would argue that KZ Shadow Fall has already accomplished this. I don't know that that you can argue against that. What it arguable is that it won't be the best looking forever. We are destined to be amazed again and probably very soon. KZ may have fallen short in regards to gameplay to some, but it absolutely gave us a glimpse into what type of standard we can expect. And even in this next-gen first year there hasn't been much better.
I also would argue that while Knack was cartoony and certainly meant to be portrayed that way, the physics in that game were just amazing. With Knack being comprised of all those pieces and having the range of motion, that took a lot of fine tuning and its possible because of the PS4. It's really quite an accomplishment.
Again obviously there will be more games that wow us but I can't agree with anyone that wasn't atleast impressed with the capabilities these games have already shown. With that said Uncharted 4 will most likely be the best looking game of the generation as Uncharted 2 was on the PS3.
