Battlefield: Hardline got pushed into 2015, but Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will still have to compete with other hugely anticipated titles.
Although Evolve was also delayed , there are still multiple FPSs set for fall. Far Cry 4 , Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Destiny all want a piece of the shooter pie.
And Bungie's game is shaping up to be a massive production. Can Advanced Warfare coexist with such a huge blockbuster? Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirsherg believes it can, as he addressed during the latest earnings call :
"We think that there's room for more than one blockbuster hit and we're just intent on having two of them. On how many games the industry can support, and particularly the first-person action genre, I think, we've seen in the past that the first-person action genre in particular is broadly appealing enough to accommodate more than one blockbuster hit. There have been other good performing players in that genre and that hasn't ever kept Call of Duty from delivering incredible results."
Hirshberg added that there are fundamental differences between Advanced Warfare and Destiny , so they won't appeal to the same audience. He also believes that given the various elements in Bungie's game (role-playing, MMO, etc.), this might bring more fans into the FPS category. As such, Destiny might actually help other shooters like CoD.
Sorry, but I'm not seeing it that way. With the sheer amount of time these multiplayer-driven games require, just about every shooter fan I know is picking one game to play for the fall. Of course, that doesn't mean they don't want to play both Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , but it does mean that if they get hooked on Destiny – which launches well before the new CoD – they've said they have no intention of buying another FPS.
So, do with that what you will.

While not really the same type of game I am really wondering how much Destiny will impact CoD.
Meh CoD just really needs to go away, iam so tired of hearing about that game.on the other hand destiny looks like a shooter i will really enjoy cant wait…
Not sure if this is justified or not but now I kind of want to buy Destiny more. I feel a time of WRPGs is feasible to ramp up and Destiny could be the real catalyst.
Okay Probably not. If FPSs don't stay on top then the open world sandbox push will just engulf all genres.
I think it will. We already saw glimmers of CoD falling back a bit in Ghosts. Sure, it was still wildly successful, but it did sell less, and I wish I could find it (i can't), but I remember reading it's retention rate has been significantly lower. Fewer people are playing CoD:Ghosts over long periods of time than they were in the past.
It may not be directly because of Destiny, but when you combine the fact that CoD is probably already beginning it's (albeit slow) decline with the Destiny hype train, I think it will overshadow CoD in a meaningful way.
Exactly. There are the hopefuls who would like to think otherwise (anyone associated with the franchise), but let's be honest here. At the end of the day, FPS gamers are maturing. Destiny will come into a market where it'll bring in new gamers; some who outweigh the FPS with the other factors in such a misfit of a typical genre.
CoD will feel the impact of Destiny and not in a small way. Bungie already has its faithful, 2 additional genres melted into one, and it's availability to Sony gamers add up to a far more serious threat than that meant for coexistence.
The sad fact is that Ghosts just isn't a good CoD game, especially when compared to previous entries. It is a shame because CoD can't afford to have bad games right now, Advanced Warfare needs to succeed if Activision has any hope of bringing back those people, (like me).
Activision has its deal with MS and Sony. Those bastards are going to be around for a very long time.
CoD pre-orders have fallen. Activision knows its going to die, but showing fear makes people feel less impressed by whatever it is you're showing. Imagine shaking while showing a product in a business meeting. They have the future all set, and since Destiny will be taking CoDs crown, they're all good to go.
Someone just make them give Crash back to the playstation, I miss that guy.
Unfortunately both games will exist and completely unsettle the landscape. Why? Because as was pointed out before, CoD fans are not Gamers, they are CoD fans. They'll lose some spillover but there are more diehard CoD fans than fans of any other game. this will simply make more and more money for Activision, period. Buying Destiny doesn't impact CoD if you haven't been buying them. Not sure how anyone comes to that conclusion.
They are 2 months apart , no matter how good destiny , i doubt it will change anything to cod .
"rain on COD's parade" hehehe. Rain won't be the end of it maybe we'll get the storm from Quezacotl on Final Fantasy VIII!!
That's the imagery I had in my head when I read the title.
The thing is, we can say that CoD isn't selling as well, it's going to die. But the facts are that CoD is still the highest selling franchise every single year, and while Ghosts may not have sold as much as previous titles, the bar has been set VERY high for that game.
The reality is that CoD won't die, not during this generation at least.
Pre bought both – really looking forward to playing both.
I even gave my Xbone some love and ordered Halo too.
Jack of all trades – master of none is how I roll …
All trades? Aren't those all shooters? 😉
i personally don't see how they can co-excist as he says.i think destiny will take a large partion of the pie and they'l have to rethink their strategy but yeah i think COD will make a significant fall this year still alot more than likely but a sharp enough fall for activions to actually notice.
happy gaming
I really, really hope he's wrong. I'm sick and tired of CoD. Black Ops 2 was the very last enjoyable game but I no longer care for any upcoming CoD game.
