The Last Of Us is awfully dark. And the teaser trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is kinda dark, too.
But don't think developer Naughty Dog is stuck in a gritty rut. Despite what you might think, the developer wants to make it plain: Uncharted is a different franchise and won't adopt the tone in TLoU. As Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells told Eurogamer :
"Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons. I don't think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We'd alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we've learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted – in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct."
It's nice to see a developer that truly understands its fans, and realizes that not every game they make will appeal to the same demographic/audience. Personally, I would hate a darker tone in Uncharted ; that's a brighter, more free-wheeling action/adventure series as compared to The Last Of Us . Adopting that somber TLoU tone for the next Drake quest wouldn't go over well.
Good
S-E could learn from them. Wait, actually nevermind. They'd obviously get the wrong idea.
Aw cmon. Well, It'll be good irregardless.
Nice to hear, though I think a slightly darker take would make sense at this point in the story I think you still ultimately want that jauntiness over everything.
Good news, it's a different game. Indiana Jones-ish setting with Drkae's funny humor shouldn't be dark at all. Plus I like beautiful colorful enviroments:)
yeah i totally get it but i can't help but feel a darker undertone with this one and the fact that it has end in the title says there could be some darker moments so i think keep it to its core but that it will have some dark moments like a bit of despiration i mean i like unchartered and TLOU for similiar and different reasons.
happy gaming
no shit sherlock, the dark somber mood is the complete opposite to what made uncharted so appealing.
I don't know, IF this were to be the last game, I'd kind of like a slightly darker tone, though definitely not as dark as TLOU.
But whatever, I'm sure I'll love it whether it is bright or dark.
If it ain't broke…
