Ben-DutkaIt's time to test Sony's new streaming service on the PlayStation 4.
The open beta for PlayStation Now kicks off today in the US and Canada. The beta has been closed since January, so for most gamers, this will be their first opportunity to test out the anticipated service.
Before you dive in, check out this new walkthrough video featuring commentary from senior director Jack Buser. There are over 100 games available via Now (with many more coming), and you can rent them for a variety of time periods and prices. Prices are as low as $1.99 and if you sample and then decide to purchase, your progress will be saved on Sony's cloud servers, which is a nice touch.
Buser also emphasizes that this is just a beta and that Now is still in the early stages. This is the time to provide Sony with valuable feedback, as he added:
"We're going to be listening closely to what the gamers tell us, and [PlayStation Now] will evolve over time."
Guess Home is sort of dead in the water now, so Jack went to do something else. 😉

hmmm I would like to play Twisted Metal…. let's see. Should I pay $15 for it, streaming grade, for 90 days from PS Now?
Or just order it NEW from Amazon for $15.88 and keep it for as long as I want and not have to put up with input lag and variable playing conditions.

I like the idea of streaming PS3 games to a PS4, but I don't particularly like the cost. You'd have to be retarded to pay these prices. Sony should feel ashamed of themselves for trying to take advantage of the mentally challenged.
Here we go… Sony shooting themselves in the foot. I guess they don't like the idea of selling more units than MS… Unfortunately. Their argument against EA's service shouldn't be countered with a service that cost more for one 4hr rental than EA intends to charge for a whole month for a library of games.
The prices are utterly ridiculous. You can rent F1 for 90 days and it costs $50? Fifty freaking dollars? Who signed off on this garbage? 4 hour rentals? The entire concept is undermined by the idiotic pricing. I understand this is just the beta for price models as well as performance but come on.
And as a side note, there were free rentals on it this morning (Papa & Yo was one of them), they have since been removed. This means you have to pay to find out whether the performance is good for you. The fact that your system can handle streaming does not cover whether you'll have hiccups or dropped service. This is simply ridiculous.
The irony is that I can't get myself to understand the point of a beta that cost more than the finalized service. Here I was thinking it's about debugging software and servers… *sigh*
I thought betas are supposed to be free, they're getting free testing from users. I'm not paying for beta items.
I realize that these prices are ridiculous for ps3 owners, but remember that a lot of ps4 owners don't have ps3s. So yes, they could pay 15 bucks on amazon for twisted metal, and then 150-200 bucks for a ps3. Then there's the idea that the playstation tv will also be able to use this service (fifty to a hundred dollars cheaper than a ps3,and I heard something about sony bravia tvs having the service built in as well?). I don't care for a lot of the prices either, but I realize that Sony is trying to get as much money as they can with these services that go to platforms owned by people, who don't necessarily own a ps3. If you look at it that way then a 30 day rental for 16 bucks is better than what any of us would have dreamed to hope for from blockbuster or any mom and pop rental. I can't defend the four hour rental though.

more like 5 bucks a month and you can play as many games as you want, or 30 bucks a year, like what EA is doing with the EA access subscription.

It would be more than $5 a month. Even Netflix is $8. And their direct competition in something like Gamefly or GameAccess is closer to the $10-12 mark, isn't it? (Minus the convenience of not waiting a few days for it)
$5 a month is at least half the cost of what a subscription model will be. Heck, their Music Unlimited program is $10/month.

even 10 bucks a month 100 bucks a year fine, but not 2 freaking bucks for 4 hours for one game!
i think its a bit silly to charge by the hour too.
all thats doing is forcing people to rush through the game and not enjoy it at all, and even lower the difficulty to easy just so you can get as far through as possible.
imagine renting the last of us for 4 hours and trying to rush through that game, all the amazing things you would miss out on!
not to mention the games sense, and achievement comes from the difficulty system.
on easy its just far too easy with far too much resources and even the AI is too forgiving.
one game that really needs to be bumped up to survivor to really be appreciated.
