Destiny’s Endgame Raids Won’t Be For The Faint Of Heart

There will be all kinds of things to do in Destiny .

The recent beta gave millions a chance to sample some of the activities on tap for the epic shared-world shooter, including story missions, competitive multiplayer and a co-op Strike mission. But what's in store for advanced players after they complete the narrative?

They'll get endgame raids, which will be similar to MMO raids in structure and concept: You have to soldier forth with friends and you must work together if you hope to be successful. If you emerge victorious, the rewards will be great. Bungie's Luke Smith told IGN that they took the risk of forcing co-op multiplayer on the user:

"It's a bit of a risk because the activity requires you to have a group of five other friends to play with. [But] if the worst thing that happens is you get your group together and you all have a great time? Wow, that's going to be awesome. I bet you'll want to come back. Hopefully the gear makes you want to come back."

Bungie is keeping the details of these raids a secret, but Smith did say they "don't adhere to any of the standard rules for the rest of the game." For instance, raids won't have waypoints, so you won't know where to go and in fact, you might not even know what to do. Personally, I'd find that immensely obnoxious but hey, I don't play MMOs so Destiny isn't really for me, anyway.

yea, I probably won't play this deep into it. The time commitment outweighs the satisfaction for me at this point. that, and the time commitment for a single raid could probably last 4 or more hours or so. i don't have that kind of free time often.

not sure where you come w/ 4hr+ because… "the instanced dungeon-like runs that might take a mere 20-60 minutes"

I heard somewhere it could take up to 45min to break through the first wave or fight I guess. So yeah maybe a few hours :/

I don't think these Raids will be like other MMO raids.

I expect maybe an hour long per raid.

I certainly hope they change the friend only concept of these end game raids… I doubt I will have 5 other friends on at the same time wanting to do the same thing…

I dream about this game in my sleep. I hate there is no match making though. I guess I will have to make friends at the tower.

I usually am not excited for first person shooters but I loved the beta much more than I anticipated and look forward to anything Bungie has in store for consumers with this game. They sold me with the beta and I am on board 100%.
