Before you freak out, yes this is another story via an 'insider'.
"Verified Sony Employee: 'IWorkForSony'' says DLNA is definitely on the way, and pretty soon.
If you are unfamiliar with the feature that thousands of excited gamers are waiting and screaming for it is the basic ability to stream content from your PC to your PS4. We can already do it on PS3 so why the long wait for PS4?
Who cares about that now right? This apparent Sony worker tells us at GearNuke via a Subreddit that we don't have long to wait now:
"I’d say early 2015 for DLNA.
MP3 and Video Players by the Holiday season (MP3 maybe sooner)"
In that second line he is referring to a redesign for the PS mobile app. About that he says:
"There’s a redesign in the works. It should be more functional and modern (read: less cheesy blue boxes)"
I can't wait for the DLNA myself but I'd also like to be able to bring digital media over to my PS4 from a USB drive, how about that? Whether this fellow is legit or not I don't know but my spidey senses tell me you should trust this info at about 84%.
WHY ISN'T THIS POSSIBLE YET?!?!?!
One step forward two steps back.
I don't agree with any of Sonys plans. I do enjoy the system, but waiting a year for features the previous generation already implemented years ago is absurd. It brings to light a question I've had for a while; why release the console premature (despite sales) if the consumers will be unsatisfied and potentially harm sales in the long run?
Between the lack of features promised and the lack of implementation of the ones that are already out, you have to question the execution beyond dating the updates. Sony needs to push these through and quickly. I do agree with a lot of the ruckus caused by Microsoft basically releasing 3D support before the very company that brought up BD3D. It's only now coming to fruition after MS brought it to the table. Sony can't expect to be 2nd on all fronts if they enjoy having a winning console.
Yes; I'm upset with the way they're rolling out the features. I'm upset about the audio issues (still having center speaker support issues across the board) when my ps3 handled it just swell. It's not a next Gen achievement. It's 5.1 surround. I'm upset that games don't immediately load up when waking the ps4 up. I'm upset that I can't get on YouTube via an app. I'm upset that my Bluetooth remote for movies doesn't work, although they haven't offered an alternative. Or that my controller dies way too quickly and killing off the light bar when it's unnecessary isn't an option.
I wish that I waited. I'm excited, despite my rant making it seem otherwise, but I'm disappointed at the same time. "For the Players" motto just pisses me off more to hear this. I should have waited a year so I could have the product I intended to get. Figured 6 months to roll out features was long enough and feeling like a fool for assuming. Sony and MS have switched places this generation regarding to consumer feedback. MS is dying for consumers to pick up their console and it's really showing with what they're rolling out to appease the masses.
*EDIT: This isn't intended to imply that I would get an xbone. I'm not a fan of a company robbed people on behalf of their faulty units (360) without once taking responsibility. Most importantly, they're not offering anything I can't enjoy with my PC (that I care to play)… With better graphics and a lower price tag.*

Seems like this is going to be the generation of the prematures doesn't it?. Premature releases, premature announcements, premature feature implementations, etc.
It's a shame, really. Most companies evolve their tech. Build a functional core and implement pre-existing features. Add new features. Debug. Sure, it's not that simple in real life, but is the point simplicity, excuses, and delays?
I would be fine with it IF there was transparency in the time line. Instead, I'm at a loss of words (and trust) on behalf of its execution. Launch it first, THEN worry about living up to the expectations. The days of the PS3 really defined my attitude with Sony. Sure, they weren't consistently punctual with updates, but they came often and painlessly. This has been a complete reversal as far as I'm concerned. Every feature i care about has taken a back seat to a f***ing share function.
Shoulda been there at launch…or within a few weeks after!
i really dont give a crap about this feature. what i want is for sony to let me backup my ps4 data on an external drive so i can finally replace that pitiful 400gb drive that came with the ps4. if i knew that most games would be 30-50gb each, i wouldve been happy to pay for an extra 50 bucks or so to have a 1tb model. the 400gb drive it came with is sad. i cant replace my drive right now because redownloading over 200gb is just not an option. bf4 upgrade plus dlcs are almost 60gb, ff14 is30+. i plan on keeping at least those games.destiny, hardline, batman… who knows how much space those would take. thinking on buying last of us remastered too. i have no extra space left.
I plan on replacing my drive soon too, but not sure if I should go with the 1TB hybrid drive for $80 or wait who knows how long to get a 1TB SSD for a decent price.
Don't know what kind of internet connection you have, but redownloading those games shouldn't be that big of a deal, just set it up to download before you go to bed and on a day where you have work the next day. And besides, the whole game doesn't have to be downloaded before you can play, just like 10% depending on the game.
i have slow download speeds so its not an option for me. but i believe that internet providers have monthly bandwidth caps. the one i looked at had a 250gb cap at 25mbps i think. thats not enough for my household so im staying with my slow internet that is unlmited.
at the very least, it's on the way.
I should be able to put my media on the hard drive like I do my ps3. The next generation of any device should have more features, not less.
No one would buy a new car today if it was released without a radio in it.
hardly soon, 6+ months is hardly soon!
this though perfectly demonstrates whats wrong with $ony this gen, priorities totally f*cked up!
crap no one cares about day one feature, built into the freaking controller so you cant remove it.
things everyone use in everyday life, and something the ps3 supported EIGHT FREAKING YEARS AGO, sorry thats not available till 13+ months after launch.
WTF!?
next ferrari is going to produce the replacement to the 458 with a car which can charge your iphone, but the tires which will fit on the rims, oh sorry there not available till 13 months after release.
begs belief!
4 the gam3rs my royal foot!
more like 4 the facebook generation!
