System update 1.74 for the PlayStation 4 is currently available, but it's not very exciting.
It was basically just another stability update; not even worth writing about. However, the next update will give PS4 owners an additional much-requested feature.
As Sony wrote on Twitter , update 1.75 will add support for 3D Blu-Ray movies, and the best part is that it'll drop next week. This is a feature the PS3 has boasted since 2010 so one could argue that the new system is behind the times but hey, it's a new console and the manufacturer needs time to give it that fully-featured feel.
Update 1.70 added a new video editor, DualShock 4 light bar brightness settings and pre-load support, so the inclusion of 3D Blu-Ray movies might feel a little light in comparison. Still better than just a boring ol' stability update, though.
Sorry but that fad is over.
I was saying that until finally getting a 3D TV and playing Trine 2 in 3D. Now I desperately want that fad to come back.
Trine 2 looks AMAZING in 3D.
If I'd ignored that cheap gimmick, I could've bought the same television that I have now. Only it'd have been 10 inches bigger.
3D gaming fad is over, but 3D movies sell pretty well actually. Many PS4 owners have been asking for this.
This is good for people who have adopted but it's obviously not for Gamers. All I want for my PS4 as of right now are more gaming features. I've even pushed all the missing media features to the back. As much as they would make the PS4 a more complete All-in One box, I still have my PS3 for that. And for those that traded in theirs for a PS4 and are missing those features now…too bad, you're idiots. You had everything you wanted, got rid of it, and now blame Sony. Even after those features do make it in (if they ever do) I won't dump my PS3 because the systems don't play the same games and that's why you should have bought the system in the first place.
Well I love 3d. And I love 3d gaming. Shadow of the colossus was amazing, only wish there were more quality 3d titles. For me it's not a fad, it's an enhancement. Martin Scorsese said that 3d, when used right is an untapped artistic tool to push the boundaries of creativity. Maybe y'all just never saw the 3d games on a good tv. I have a 55" lg passive 3d and have never had physical side effects. It's so smooth and beautiful with quality content.
I wish these new games like destiny and such would have 3d support. Nobody has to play it that way, there are plenty who would appreciate that option like myself. I can't imagine it's a big budget item to implement. It's already 3d based environment.

Completely agree.
I agree with you, my 47" LG 3D TV is great. Passive 3D is so much better, my friend has a Samsung TV with the sync glasses and it sucks, does not sync properly and gives me a headache.
SotC is beautiful in 3D, I'm contemplating buying the God of War collection to try the 3D game play.
I also have a 47" LG. I have pretty much every 3d game released for ps3, and Trine 2 as well.
People like to call it a fad, but I also would have much preferred support for 3d games to continue.
It's nice to have 3d movies on ps4 now, but the one I'm waiting for is still mp3 support. If they ever get around to it the ps4 will be the complete package, even though it should have been included since the start.
I might be in the minority on this, but I have been waiting for this. Now I can officially stop using my PS3 for movies and migrate to the PS4. One step closer to retiring the PS3 for all it's years of great service. Now I just have to finish FFX HD.
I'm actually pretty happy about it. Can't wait to watch movies in my bedroom in 3D….. did that sound wrong to anyone or is it just me?
3D movies are a great excuse to be able to watch them by yourself. The whole group thing; it's like having the commentary on by someone who had nothing to do with the film.
I don't understand why Sony couldn't have implemented this feature from the begining. Sure the PS4 is meant for gaming, but releasing a brand new console with less features than its predecessor isn't exactly going forward. Even if it was just so they could add 100% more pixels to video games. I swear this company and their one step forward two steps back with their ideas.
It is because Xbox One just made the announcement regarding 3d blu ray capabilities happening with their next update. You make great points and it is a shame they waited until Xbox made the announcement. Sony still needs to start implementing some of the features they promised at E3 2013.
surfer, do you have a source that states they did so in response to XB1?
One of the few reasons I'm not touching the PS4 for a while. Every time I take a look at it I feel my PS3 is better in every way…
Bring back local media streaming and I might think of giving it a shot, for now my PS3 is too good to retire.
I still believe there was no reason for Sony not to have it included from the beginning, 3D Bluray Players have been out for a long time! The PS3 is how old and can do it???
@Underdog15
Well awfully awfully coincidental if not lol and if not why not bring it out sooner? If were a betting man…
@Karosso
I agree with your comments. Sony has gotten lazy with their updates.
Well, I'm not sure I'd call it coincidental. In my experience, allowing hindsight to control "coincidental" evidence will more often make me out to be a fool than an enlightened scholar. Especially since my understanding has always been it'll come eventually.
If eventually meant two or three days after their arch rival console announced it, it was not a coincidence 🙂

Yeah, you really aren't understanding my hindsight argument.
Bottom line is Sony made announcement two days after Xbox made their announcement…make your own conclusion..Sony needs to step up their updates and start making good on the features introduced at E3 2013.
So they had announced it was part of their plan back in 2013, then?
Yes, and in the 400 days since they could have announced it, they wait until 2 days after Xbox one announcement..cmon now
:-
lol yeah ok. Whatever you say, champ.

YAY! Now I don't have to haul my PS3 around when I want to do anything 3D. This might motivate me to get back into Trine 2 again!
I didn't know trine 2 was 3d. Also just found out the new sniper elite is 3d as well. Also ps4 supported 3d games since release day so no reason to wait for an update to play anything

Not a 3d guy myself, but it's nice to brag about.
eh, i guess way too late is better way too late than never!
now, $ony, where is that utilizing standby to put your game into a save state so you can resume it where you left off next time you turn on the console?
you know the feature which was shown off when the ps4 was FIRST ANNOUNCED!
oh, and the feature your competitor RELEASED WITH!
one thing really pissing me off about $ony this gen, they totally have their priorities screwed!
4 the gam3r, totally!
thats why were putting this stupid facebook sharing crap, and 3D movie playback, before a truly next gen feature people have been SCREAMING for years for!
sigh.
4 the gam3rs my royal a$$!!!!!!!!!
I watch Netflix in 3D through my PS3.Its a fun novelty. I have a long way to go on my PS3.I wanted to pull the trigger on the white destiny bundle. I decided to throw 500.00 into the sailboat instead. PS4? All in good time.
