Hey, like we said, Ubisoft just has to bow to the pressure .
The publisher has received a lot of negative press over their refusal to include a playable female character in the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Unity . The Last Of Us actress Ashley Johnson isn't too happy about it, either.
During a recent Videogamer interview , Johnson (the voice of Ellie in TLoU) spoke about her reaction to learning of Ubisoft's decision:
I was like, 'Give me a f***ing break! It's 2014! How many video games do you have to make to realise maybe have an option to have a female be in there?' And maybe not just on PS Vita."
Here, Johnson is referring to the female protagonist Aveline in the Vita title, Assassin's Creed: Liberation . Beyond that, the actress wanted to make a point that with more female gamers out there, there should be more female characters in our video games. And they don't have to be superheroes; they can just be "normal:"
"There are so many female gamers…I don't know what the percentage is at this point but there are a lot of females that play video games and it would be nice to see stronger females in a game that are not just the damsel in distress, the love interest or she's oversexualised. She doesn't even necessarily have to be a badass. Just like a normal female character."
I think what she means is 'MORE' female characters that are normal. Cause there's plenty.
Or perhaps she means specifically as the lead. (Although, even then, there's lots still, but admittedly not nearly close to half or anything)
Omg just give it a rest people really!!
She is right to an extent, there should be more normalized women in games.
BUT we must, for very god reasons, continue to have damsels in distress, and oversexualized female characters.
Yes! Bayonetta was gold.

I love how these people consider themselves progressive because they can "look beyond the image", when in reality their demand for female characters reveals an obsession with image.
^This is my beef with most of popular society.
Not at all how I imagined Ellie's voice actress to look like. And seems she's got an equally dirty mouth in real life as well.
Also, I've said all I want to regarding this. Don't cave into the demands of people Ubisoft, sometime, someones going to have to take a stand against the internet's whining masses.
They want to avoid double issues with making a female character. People freaked their shiz over the guy feeling up Lara, what would happen when you found out assassingirl would seduce a guy? OMFG WTF THIS IS SEXIST ANS EVIL WIBEWFLBEFJKBABNSAGJSJKD SGS!!!!!!!!!!
As someone said above, LET. IT. GO.
I don't disagree that gaming would benefit from more diversity all around, but people like Johnson are totally going about it the wrong way. If developers end up giving in to the pressure of doing token -insert non-caucasian and/or male type- quota characters, they will be forced. And quota characters will hurt more than it will help.
The solution to this is for these apparent legions of female gamers to involve themselves in the development of games and influence the process directly. That's the best way for this to happen naturally.
Oh, and stop saying "It's whatever-the-current-year-is!" It's a meaningless utterance.

What is more wrong.
The way women are portrayed in video games.
Or….
The way we perceive women in video games.
Basically, who is the one at fault, the developers for making them have big boobs, or us for seeing those boobs as sexual objects?
Why can't big boobs be 'normal'?
Why are attractive women being classed as 'sexualized'?
For the sake of perpetuating the species, we, as straight men, are hardwired to see attractive symmetry and ratios in women as having a certain degree of sexual appeal. It's also hardwired to seek the most excellent mate possible to work towards a more strengthened species, or in other words, we see some women as more attractive than others.
And that's just the science of attraction. If you created a character with clothing that is tight in all the right areas and brings attention to that symmetry, our "lizard brains" can't help but see the sexual potential on display. It's our executive brains that should bring us to reason, as you state. But that doesn't take the "sexualized" part away. It just puts it into context.
In other words… I don't agree that it should be possible to pretend it doesn't exist.
An who can make normal women the best?
WOMEN! Yes, I know! Shocking isn't it? Who would have thought that by starting and running your own female game studios you could portray women in a good light?
For more games like Tomb Raider and characters like the new Lara Croft to be made, women need to have more influence in gaming, which means they need to start taking the bulls by the horns, starting studios, making games catered to females and males alike that depict females in a good light.
It's all well and good that we have females making games, but we need more. Enough to change the industry and the way women are perceived in and by the industry.
Also, it doesn't help that so many women still see games as an activity just for kids and men, all they are doing is aiding the misconception that gaming is no place for women, especially grown women. There is nothing childish or lame about a grown female playing games or wanting to make games, women NEED to support women more in the way that men support men.

one thing people dont realize, how incredibly difficult it is to animate female bodies especially accurately replicate hair, human hair is by far the hardest thing to make look natural and realistic.
not only the movement of it have it realistically react to the wind and environment like AMDs tressfx tech, but more so just a natural look of it.
drawing each strand individually, a massive strain on not only the system itself but would take artists for freaking ever!
exactly why allot of games these days try to have women as side characters, that way there on camera less, and less attention is being paid to them.
not to mention ACs, like 99% of games, the characters have always been a real male personality.
look at ezio, a real charmer ladies man.
would that story, that personality, made sense with a women?
of course not!
so wheres the idiots whining that GOW does not have a female character?
yea, kratos totally has a female personality!
so f*cking sick of feminists chanting the black chord because of this sexist bullsh*t!
maybe theres a REASON to why things are done the way they are.
typical world these days though, no one gives a flying f*ck WHY, they just want to whinge!
So…. we shouldn't have more female leads because of human hair and because Kratos would have made a bad woman?
EDIT: For everyone else, this post is essentially blankline's TL:DR version.

stop putting words in my mouth.
i did not say we should not have females in our games, i said feminists need to stop with their mousy b*tching and realize WHY there are so few females in games.
but typical society these days they dont give a flying f*ck why, they dont want a solution, just the opportunity to whine!
To be honest we need more bad looking "bitties" in video with big butts.
If Ashley wasn't a scrawnny girl with a pretty face and was someone like… Kim Kardashian then she wouldn't have been saying such things.
Yes I actually went there.
I could live with some slammin booties
Yeah, like there is an over abundance of 'NORMAL' male characters. Men aren't over exaggerated in physical build, strength, looks, or anything of the like. /sarcasm
When did gaming become democracy? Where/when did all this equal representation start? This topic is getting way out of hand, tiresome, and just damn ignorant.
