You're a proud owner of the PlayStation 4. But what if someone asked you why you bought it?
Did you buy it because you're a collector and you buy every new piece of gaming hardware that comes out? Did you buy it because you're a huge PlayStation fan and you buy every new PlayStation platform that launches?
Maybe it's more complicated than that. Maybe you were a hardcore Xbox fan up until this generation and you've suddenly decided to switch teams. If so, you've probably got quite the story to tell, huh? I've often wondered if such a defection is due more to annoyance at Microsoft or interest in Sony…obviously, it's a combination of both, but Microsoft did a good job driving away some fans in 2013. We've also heard from Sony that a lot of current PS4 owners never owned a PS3, and that's telling.
But by all means, expound on your reasons as to why you own the PS4. You know you've been wanting to talk about it ever since you bought it…
It was Christmas 🙂
Because it's awesome 🙂
Because I like new technology I'm interested in. That's simply it. Games and features are always secondary.
Destiny
InFamous Second Son
Batman Arkham Knight
MLB 14 the Show
And I had a bloody good time with my PS3! In fact, still am.
a controller with real triggers that would allow the Playstation to become the natural home for FPS gamers
Sega to Sony. Thats my gaming history.
Playstation never disappoints. I've been a fan since day one of the original Playstation. I'll never forget my first experience with Battle Arena Toshiden…fondly remember Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid to this day.
I've been lucky and have never had a piece of hardware break down. I'm happy to support the console and see it evolve from day one! This around around especially, the entry price was pretty reasonable.
I'm a Playstation gamer. I bought a PS1 way back in the day at a pawn shop with a copy of Resident Evil 2 and got hooked right away. I skipped the PS2 era and instead played my N64/Dreamcast, followed by the 360. Then RROD happened. Twice.
Bought a PS3 in 2007 and never looked back. I absolutely loved the PS3, still do. Never touched another Xbox. I've never even played a single second of a Halo or a Gears.
I knew I was going to get a PS4, I was just waiting for it to be announced. Once it was, and preorders opened, I bought one and picked it up at midnight launch.
I "fell into" my PS4 like I did my Wii. I happened to go to Walmart in the middle of the night (launch night) and they had chairs set out, serving coffee and tea. The line was about 12 people long and I had my DS in my pocket. I waited maybe 2 hours and came home with a bright shiny Wii. Same thing with the PS4 except this was in the middle of the day when I went in and Walmart still had their pre-order sign up. I asked and they had one spot left for the PS4. I took it. The reason being that I knew i was gonna get one so why wait? I originally bought it for Drive Club but Sony destroyed my interest in the game completely now. Destiny will finally pull me into my PS4 completely tho.
Because im a gamer looking for new tech. besides bordom with my Ps3.
If history repeats it's self we should be in for some amazing exclusives. The kind that non Sony publishers don't own. Via simple logic you can see why the PS4 is system of choice. It's the mutil plat machine with the most/best bonuses (exclusives).
Last week I bought a PS4 and Xbox One.
I bought the PS4 because:
1. I found a good deal second hand.
2. Infamous Second Son
3. Multiplatform games are usually better on PS4
4. I have about 7 games on PS3/X360 that I still want to play. A couple of short games between them. And after that I have no games to play so I'll sell the consoles.
5. I had a lot of issues with PS3 and that's why I traded it in for an Xbox 360. I have the feeling this generation is gonna be the other way around, Sony seems to have learned from it's mistakes and my first impression is that the PS4 feels a lot better and feels a lot more like a finished product.
6. Xbox One isn't officially released here so I can get better deals on games for PS4.
7. PS Plus deals and free games.
So yes, I think I have enough legit reasons 🙂

I bought it because I like playing games and there are games out there I want to play I can't on the X1.
i didnt it was a gift to me after helping a friend.
obviously couldnt sell it that would be quite insulting.
Always a PS fan. Always a gamer – was looking forward to Destiny, Watchdogs, Infamous: Second Son and Assassin's Creed 4 and knew that it was going to be a whole new experience. Not disappointed. The new game schedule seems kinda long but, when you play these newer games and realize watching the credits of the ones you finish that it takes ALOT of people and parts to make – you can appreciate it more.

After Sony stole my money with PSvita, I will wait to decide the best console for me!
I recommend either selling it or waiting to see if they follow through on the compatibility features it will share with PS4.
I was really stoned.
my ps3 broke down. i read online 'pffft' that PS3 repairs were pretty much standard at $150 (as it turns it out they're only $85… with slow service that wasn't particularly good). I determined I wanted a new one and not a repair job. The cost of a new PS3 would run me $250. I determined if I offloaded my 360 now to help get myself into a PS4 it wouldn't be too much more money. So I did. I've been using Gamefly (first month was free) for all of my games. The only PS4 game I own is Transistor.
The PS4 has a list of solid games, usually versions of improved PS3 games.
It's far from hitting it's stride though and has a ways before coming into it's own.
Destiny will likely be the first experience that gives me some real solid gaming value on the platform.
EDIT: and would I recommend one now to someone? eh, only if they're really wanting to play Destiny. Sure. It's on PS3 but it probably won't feel the same.

Here are the reasons I bought a PS4:
1. New games and experiences that the PS3 cannot perform
2. Better graphics, resolution, farther draw distance and faster load times
3. DS4
4. Faster PSN and UI
5. New Playstation Technology
New reasons have arrived. I am looking forward to Project Morpheus and PSNow. It doesn't hurt that the PS4 is the most powerful console. Which is just a bonus to me. I feel the perfect gaming situation is owning a PS3, PS4, Vita and WiiU. That covers all my gaming needs.
I wanted a piece of the future in my home.
Playstation's treated me well ever since I was a kid. I figure even though I thought its launch was complete crap other than Killzone Shadowfall, that I will just ready up for the next generation of epic Playstation exclusive experiences.
I bought the PS4 because I know it'll once again have that one gem that shines above all the rest, and remind me why I'm a gamer and I'm here to stay.
Also BROOOOOODBORNE!
I am SOOOOOOOO gonna mix that up with Battleborne.
What's Broodborne? Also, Knack was pretty awesome.
i swear of all the 'love it' or 'hate it' games of the last year, knack has to be it. i need to try it now because of the controversy
ive always loved the playstation brand since the psx days, thats when i actually discovered this site (hence its name)
i was a hardcore nintendo fanboy and was against anything disc based (psx/dreamcast) until i went to a friends house and played twisted metal and other games he had. i was sold. been loyal since. i still cant believe how tiny the slim ps2 is, barely bigger than a dvd case. i sold my ps3 for a ps4, then sold the ps4 and preordered the destiny bundle, i finally get to have my white playstation. i nearly bought the white slim ps3 but got over it as soon as ps4 was announced. if i had the space, i wouldve kept everything but for monetary reasons as well, they had to be traded. i still have the original psx and slim ps2 though.
a video game console is a console. so every time i see pc fanboys coming in, it just gets on my nerves like no other bc theres absolutely no comparison (obvi pc will always outperform) its the matter of having a dedicated video game console for gaming. thats like people comparing a f1 race car to an m3. its a stupid argument that pc fanboys need to stay out of.
Console love 4 life.
Ya pretty much just know they are bringing the best games, but really Xbox wasn't even in my calculations after watching MS's actions for years.
I bought it because I knew I was going to want one eventually. I learned the hard way when it came time to buy a PS3 that you need to preorder the first year. I bought it because I was amped for Watch_Dogs and Driveclub at launch. Imagine my disappointment. However, I've been VERY impressed with the PS+ offerings and The Show.
There's not a worthwhile console or handheld game I ever want to miss so it was a no brainer for me. And the PS4 will probably get the most love from Japan besides the 3DS so I am ready to see what a studio like Tri Ace or Yakuza Studio can do with it. So far all the exclusives (Killzone SF, Knack, Infamous SS, Resogun, Transistor) I own I have really enjoyed. That being said, coming around the bend I see my PS4 being my least played system of this gen's systems. The Wii U being an amazing system with a library that gets more and more impressive and against the grain of "movie games" and the One is hitting its stride as much as i balked at the Kinect last gen, 2.0 is impressive and i dig all the extras. It is a games machine plus. Im okay with that. All in all, i am happy with all of the sytems and couldnt really imagine not having them all in the entertainment center…
I bought mine because I have always been satisfied with Playstation. The consoles are always top notch, bringing in new generations of amazing experiences. The exclusives are the best of the best. I have never had a Playstation console fail on me (my 60gig fatty is still running strong). I have come to expect nothing less than greatness from them and the have yet to disappoint.
A couple of different reasons. Gaming's my main hobby, and I was curious how the rollout of the system would go from day one, and the best way to find out is to have it (answer: Much smoother than expected, was very impressed).
Other reason was games (crazy for a gaming console, right?) War Thunder (available at launch in Australia) and Killzone in particular, and neither disappointed (KZ turned out much better than expected). The library has of course been a little thin in the first year, it always is, but it's less thin that it was for the PS2 or PS3, and I'm having a blast :).
inFamous: Second Son.
I remember thinking about waiting until Sucker Punch announced this title at the reveal. Immediately I said, "I'm purchasing a PS4." Don't regret it.
Sure, there's a shortage of games but I'll live for now. Sony always delivers on the game front so I'm not worried (their first and second-party support is amazing!) Plus, I own a Wii-U and Xbone but PS4 is my primary console.
