Driveclub’s Complex Weather Systems Set This Racer Apart

Psyched for Driveclub ? No? Read this and see if you change your mnd.

Sony has released a pair of very impressive new gameplay videos for the anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive, and they show off the game's vaunted weather systems.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , this footage looks absolutely amazing. It represents an "early demo" of the game's complex weather feature, and it's important to remember that it will not be included with the title's launch on October 7. This weather feature will be delivered "just shortly" after the game arrives via free update.

Evolution Studios art director Alex Perkins said the team wanted to make this weather system "as immersive and fun as possible." It's wildly in-depth, too, as players can dictate the cloud cover to determine how much rain (or snow) will fall, and you can vary the wind speed as well. On top of which, the height and temperature of the sun will govern how quickly clouds will burn off and roads will dry, and that's pretty insane.

We've seen rain and snow in racing games before, but what about the whole gamut? We're talking drizzle, sleet, deluges, and even total blizzards. The dynamic nature of this weather will continue to change during an event; for instance, the sun might be out when you start, but by the time you finish, you could be driving through a downpour. And of course, the physics change when the road changes, so be prepared!

This is encouraging stuff, yes?

I have to say this game is really looking stronger all the time. I had plenty of doubts but they're proving my wrong about it. In video those rain effects on the track look fantastic.

That does sound VERY awesome. Maybe I shouldn't have doubted the studio that made a game the caliber of Motorstorm…..

really?
what makes a AAA big super high budget game like this stand out from the crowd is the weather system?
thats like ferrari saying what makes our new hypercar stand out is its amazing cool new air conditioning system!
no one buys a ferrari for the air con!
just like weather effects would be pretty close to the bottom on the priority list.
really dont know WTF is wrong with $ony lately, they are constantly focusing on features which are completely irrelevant to their products!

I wouldn't exactly call this feature irrelevant and there is no way this is comparable to buying a Ferrari for it's air conditioning. It's physics and it adds a level of immersion that if left out could otherwise not qualify it as a racing/driving simulator. Look at "Spintires", a game that was just released for PC. It's not so much the trucks or the driving that have people ranting and raving over this game. It's the physics of the mud that adds such a level of realism that it has everyone who plays it falling in love. If the weather system can accomplish what they are hoping for then, yes, it will stand out from the competition.

back at ya troll, go back to your bridge!
back on topic though point is its hardly on the priority list.
what makes a game stand out should be relevant things it does, core things to its genre.
realistic weather system big woopty doo hoo, how does that improve racing games and make them more enjoyable?

Worst friggin comment and statement ever. You sir are an imbecile. If anything its like the tires and suspension etc. How the ferrari will handle. Weather is practically gameplay as it means you will be playing in it. Of course it matters. Sun out one second then maybe rain it gets slippery then maybe a fog? Who knows. This sounds awesome and if youre a racing fan you can more than appreciate it. With that being said it may be a AAA game but i cant even remember who the dev is, if this was gt7 by polyphony then we could dive deeper into commenting but i dont even think the dev for this game is a well known one but why is this important anyway? Its not indicative of the actual game in any way because they have had time to better improve it over the last year and are getting money straight from sony to make it. Its a first party game it will be big and will probably sell well as we have no other racing games around and NFS isnt making one this year i heard

Well, if the gameplay footage I seen is anything to go by, this game looks pretty amazing.

There is a side by side comparison of Forza Horizon 2 vs Driveclub and Driveclub blows it away!

FH2 looks like a nice graphical arcade racer, but Driveclub looks like you are actually driving the cars in real life, it's so freakin' realistic.

This weather system really pushes that to the next level.
