Sutherland: “An Honor And A Privilege” To Work With Kojima

The new voice of Snake in the venerated Metal Gear Solid franchise is accomplished actor Kiefer Sutherland.

Some long-time fans are upset that Kojima and Co. dumped David Hayter as the voice for the iconic protagonist, but Sutherland has been nothing but impressed and honored with the gig.

It seems he's also quite enthusiastic about the future of the gaming industry, as indicated by his recent post in the celebrity comments section of the game's official website:

"This is arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment. It was an honor and a privilege to work with [Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima] who is at its forefront."

These comments were just added to the MGSV site , and they join other Hollywood celebrity comments concerning that awesome E3 trailer for The Phantom Pain . Sutherland may not have a ton of experience working in video games, but it sounds like he may become a fixture in the industry in the near future…

I watched that 30 minute E3 game preview. It was godly.

I was skeptical of Kiefer voicing Snake initially. It was very weird first hearing his voice but, after hearing him interact with Chico during the Ground Zeros mission, I was sold. Kiefer definitely surpasses Hayder's voice acting range. I miss Hayder's voice, but Kiefer is great. He brings more emotion to the character.

The thing is, BB's voice actor really should have been changed back in MGS3, then this would not have been so confusing. Or even after the events of Ground Zeroes – when he wakes up in 1984. I don't think the change was introduced well, but now that it is hear I don't mind.

My concern is that in the 30 minute gameplay demonstration he doesnt say anything. It just seemed really od dwhen Shalashaska is talking to him about his arm and he doesn't even comment on it. I hope Snake isnt a silent protagonist… I want him to be a rich character, the plot has set it up for him, but he needs to be well scripted and performed to, only time will tell.

I think at this point, I don't even care about his acting range. Hayder's voice became synonymous with Metal Gear. The fact that his voice is bad in a good way and is so easy to make fun of fell in line with the goofiness of MG. You can't really take MG 100% serious. So in my humble opinion, you don't need an actor with that kind of range. Especially when you're gonna see that same character attach a balloon to sheep and hide in a box.

Kinda wish he had elaborated, that was a stock answer.

Great guy, not right for Snake. And what happens when he's busy with a movie and Koji needs the voice on a new MGS?

At least Hayter can always be found at home on his couch shirtless and smoking weed.

… In other news: Actors compliment their directors during their promotional work as part of the contract.

(seriously, it is. It's why they visit the talk shows too – it's simply contractual promotional work, where one of the terms are topics the hosts are required to ask in order for them to fulfil their contracts)

That's why I look for the odd genuine feeling in these things, they do happen cuz you can just tell even by the words. Right here, this is just promotional stuff as you said.

Its going to be hard playing this game and know what happens in the future for the Big Boss. "I never thought of you as a son, but I always respected you as a soldier. And as a man."

Do the character justice tv show guy. He's got a bigger fanbase than you do I'm sure.

For the last 2 months i've been playing the MGS HD Collection (all 3 games for the first time, just finished PW) and loving every minute of it and as good Sutherland is in the game from what i have listened is going to be weird not having David Hayter voicing Big Boss.
