Wireless is the way to go.
When the PlayStation 4 launched late last year, Sony made the new Dual Shock 4 controller compatible with the PS3 if it was plugged in via USB cable. However, that meant players were limited to the very short charge cable.
Now, thanks to recent firmware update 4.60, the PS4 controller can be used wirelessly with the PS3. If you want to know how it works, check out the detailed information at Reddit . Basically, you just pair the PS4 controller with the PS3 by using the system's Bluetooth capabilities, which is relatively simple. The only downside is that many of the Dual Shock 4's features, including the PlayStation button, vibration and Sixaxis tilt controls don't work.
At the very least, though, you can turn on the PS3 using the Dual Shock 4's PS button, which you couldn't do before. So, plan on using the newer controller to play older games?
Wow. I never this feature existed in the first place. Good to know.
Yea same here! I never new you could this either! Most of my DS3 controllers are in bad shape so i kinda gave up finishing a few of my games. But now, i can do so! Bioshock Infinite? I think so! =D
Very nice. I used the DS4 controller to play through Devil May Cry on the PS3 using a long USB cable I had. It's just hard going back to the old DS3 after using the DS4. It's just so much nicer.
I tried it. Works. Only games that previously worked with the DS4 will work wirelessly. GTA V doesn't work : (
Nice!!!! I love the feel of the DS4 in muh handsssss… Too bad the PS button doesn't work though, how do you turn anything off?
Haha wow, never knew this. I have heard the Dualshock 4 is far less durable than the PS3 controller – is that true?
dunno haven't thrown it at the wall. But it does have more sensitive tech in it.
I never knew we could use a DS4 with the PS3! The DS3 feels kinda weird after using the DS4 for a while so I'm definitely going to use this feature!
Let's just hope that Sony can bring better compatibility. I like my rumble and having everything work as expected. Come on Sony, it's software!
This is awesome, I didn't even know it was possible with the cable. I really hope that they get the rest of the functionality working too, though. I'd love to use the DS4 for my entire PS3 backlog.
