In my estimation, last year's The Last Of Us was indeed the best game of the year. A no-brainer in my mind.
Now, with The Last Of Us: Remastered less than a month away, I find myself asking: Could this upgraded version once again represent the very best video game experience of 2014?
Personally, I'd say the new-and-improved TLoU isn't eligible for any 2014 awards because, of course, it's a 2013 title. It may be better in just about every conceivable way but the bottom line is that it's basically the same game that launched last year. However, looking at the 2014 year with realistic eyes, I'm not sure anything will come out that's better than TLoU. We haven't seen anything yet, in my opinion; Titanfall isn't GotY material and neither is inFamous: Second Son . Dark Souls II, Mario Kart 8, and Rayman Legends are the two top-scoring games of the year so far.
Then again, all the biggest games are yet to come: Destiny , Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , Assassin's Creed: Unity , Dragon Age: Inquisition , Far Cry 4 , Battlefield: Hardline , Driveclub , Evolve , The Evil Within , etc. Any one of those could be worthy of end-of-the-year honors. Even so, I see TLoU competing quite favorably with such titles, and the Remastered edition might remind everyone just how awesome that game was…
Related Game(s): The Last Of Us: Remastered
Actually nothing else on that list is looking very great for 2014. I mean Dragon Age and The Evil Within are games I gotta have, but without doing something amazing they won't be GOTY material.
The Order: 1886 is still our great white hope.
Generally every odd numbered year has the better games realesed. At least in terms of the games I'm interested in.
Here we go again with the Naughty Dog love. lol. World said something important. "Actually, nothing else on that list is looking very great for 2014."
And you wonder why people are buying the Wiiu now.
No. I never consider re-releases to count. If so it would be Final Fantasy X HD. But I have to say, 2014 has been rather slow, especially in comparison to last year. All I have played is FFX HS & Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. But I cannot count FFX as it is a release & MGS5:GZ… just feels wrong as it is only a prologue.
nah, FC4 will win this year.
destiny will win this year.
and no, games that are revised with x amount of hd super powers with never before seen footage in amazing 4k footage doesnt count. they should never count. ever. thats like someone in hwood remaking godfather for example and expecting it win another award

I've already played TLoU, so there are some games I'm more hyped for, and re-releases shouldn't win any end of the year awards outside of the 'best re-release' category some websites/mags have. Being honest, though, TLoU Remastered will be the best game experience of 2014. I kind of envy those people who will just now be playing it because the game is a masterpiece and there's nothing like going through it that first time. Very few games hit all the right notes for me these days, TLoU managed to do just that. Perfect? No, but damn near.
