Rise Of The Tomb Raider Targeting All Consoles And PC?

Thus far, the platforms aren't totally official.

But if some recent listings at Amazon UK are to be believed, it seems Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to both current- and next-gen consoles, as well as PC.

It was initially unveiled during Microsoft's E3 press conference, and most assumed it'd be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One. But now it seems the anticipated follow-up effort will be headed to the PS3 and 360, too, so don't despair if you haven't upgraded your console hardware. It's a little strange, though…the game is still a ways off, and we're already starting to see plenty of games that are only being made for next-gen machines.

Then again, if I was a publisher, I wouldn't want to miss out on selling to the PS3/360 crowd, which numbers around 160 million these days.

Bah…I only see this hindering the performance of the PC/X1/PS4. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Definitely not. It's long overdue to get rid of that dead weight.

i agree, for me a true ps4 next gen game means not possible on the current gen [ps3],i don't want a polished ps3 game on my ps4 [when i get one about hmm november],and about a year
after release of the ps4 [or even more] when the next tombraider wil be released its time for true next gen games

Hell no, anybody with a brain sees this as pathetic but these stupid companies will never move on. Not too many months ago I was telling people on youtube predicting that this would be the worst gen of all time, that they were crazy, that we should give it a year before we see. Well, it's time to admit that I was the one who was wrong. This gen is absolutely going to suck. Sure, we'll get a good AAA release here and there but I'm convinced the PS3 and 360 will be holding things back through 2016 at least, and what makes that more discouraging is it likely means no PS5 and Xbox 'Two' until 2020 at the earliest. That means another generation of consoles staying on long after the expiration date.

Not at all.

My only critique of the Destiny Alpha is that the game feels slightly held back by the old-gen consoles.

I understand that people want to capitalize on the old-gen fans, but all we are doing is just prolonging next-gen adoption. Seriously if all the big games just suddenly went next-gen only, you would see an explosion of next-gen console sales.

I know this SOUNDS unfair, but could you imagine the kind of innovation we could see? When companies are able to forget about old-gen consoles much much sooner than normal, and focus on new experiences.

So far all of the next-gen only ports of previous gen games have all been several levels above in terms of graphical fidelity.

That's a shame because the good versions won't have room to make it anything better than a prettier old gen game. I'll still get it though.

But I totally understand since Square Enix thought that they could sell more than was decent before so now they will want a bigger potential audience to pull from for maximum cash.

I wonder what Square Enix's projections for this will be. If I recall correctly, the initial reboot was considered a "failure" by them as it missed their initial sales projections. But, what can we expect from the publisher that ruined FF?

I'm fairly certain this is SE's fault and not the devs. I'm sure SE forced them to develop backwards and now I find it worrisome as they'll have less time to focus on the product due to optimization requirements for 2 additional prior gen consoles that have much different development tools than their current gen counterparts.

This could absolutely be what hinders this game. I only see it holding the game back unless it was solely developed for the new generation then either later or another team develop it on the last gen consoles.

This is very interesting because all of the top developers have mostly moved on. I get it as a publisher you want to reach more of an audience. However as a developer who made a great game and made a good upgraded version, one would think they would want to push forward even more.

sigh.
were never going to see what these consoles can really do if we keep weighing them down with last gen systems!
for f*cks sake why cant everyone follow ACs example and give us next gen only games!?
especially this, i mean its probably not going to be out till late 2015 early 2016.
that means a good 2 or so years after next gen release, thats not long enough to cut off the dead weight!?
seriously!?
especially this gen, consoles have been flying off the shelf at a rate so much larger than last gen did.
so why cant we give them das boot!?
i miss the good old days where games were made because of a passion, because of a idea.
not just to fill those already fat wallets!

welp another game being held back by Ps3/360. You know why even release a console generation if most new games well be release on Ps3/360 too besides Ps4/XBone. Right now i have a 400.00$ paper weight.

At the end of the day, this is a business. Why would you limit yourself to just the new consoles? Not a great business strategy.

Seriously, Sony and MS need to kill of their old, garbage hardware and tell devs to STOP developing for them. Enough of the pathetic cross-gen ports already. I gave all these studios and both Sony and MS a pass for 2014, in 2015 and beyond, it is totally unacceptable for major releases to be cross-gen. Why the hell did these idiotic companies release new hardware if nobody, including the first parties themselves, weren't going to take advantage of them. Complete and total failures, both Sony and MS.

Ya , can t wait until most game will be next gen only .Hate getting a slight upgrade compare to ps3/360 .

I hope near the end of 2015 companies will at least stop trying to give the same experience to all console owner .

It s cool giving last gen people a chance to play their game but don t punish us ( PC/PS4/ONE owner ) because they are not ready to go to the current gen .

I want more then slight difference in graphics . I want better animation , AI , particle effect ,more stuff going on around me ,better breast physics , more real people in the same server ect …

That s why i bought a ps4 .
