This time last year, who would've expected a map of the US would look like this?
So, the Movoto Real Estate blog took data culled from Facebook and put together the map you see here. It consists of gamer preferences based on the "Likes" the next-gen consoles earned.
As you can see, it's close: 9 states are basically tied in terms of their PS4/Xbox One preference, but overall, 22 states sided with the Xbox One, while 19 went with the PS4. It's important to note that several of the states with the largest populations (California, New York, Texas, etc.) are green (for Xbox One). As the blog states, if this were an election, it would be over; the green states and their corresponding populations dominate.
As the generation goes on, will things change? It probably depends but for now, it's arguable that Microsoft has most of the momentum, as the Xbox One just got a price drop on June 9. The US has been Xbox Land for years and despite Sony's fast start this generation, it doesn't appear as if PlayStation can reclaim this territory. Then again, it's still early, so you never know…
Mmmm…
This is false. The Xbox One still hasn't sold jack shiz. My thinking tells me this poll was one of those paid polls to convince people a lot of other people also have an xbox one. Looking at that "map" makes me smile. The Wii u actually has California right now. Not xbox, and that alone is enough proof.
Well it only says the "Likes" a console got in FB, and I mean come on. Do you really want FBholics liking the PS4?
The Xbox One will have outsold the PS4 in this country in June. And it has been an extremely close race in the US based on the numbers we've seen.

Not – as of June 22nd – according to Amazon Best Sellers: http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-video-games/zgbs/videogames/ref=sv_vg_12
June isn't even over yet. I am dismayed at your lack of confidence in Sony US this gen Ben. Although it was highly unlikely the PS4 shot to first and remained that way since launch. This was something that you stated simply would not happen. Look at 'em now! They makin' paper!
At least let's wait till June NPDs hit to make such claims. That will definitely be a market indicator. It is highly probable that the $399 X1 will take the lead but if it doesn't then MS will need to take DRASTIC measures. I think this is why Sony is saving some big guns in order to counter any ground that the opposition make take. So far I am enjoying this gen. It seems that all parties will benefit from this close competition. Even Nintendo has sparked my interest. Gamers win!!!

Alright! Maine is still for Playstation! Really surprised actually.
This poll isn't credible.
Agreed, everywhere I go in NYC there are XBox720p boxes piled up, can hardly see a PS4 on the shelves.
Is it really possible that Microsoft is producing so many unities? and actually selling them?
I say Sony will reclaim the USA by the end of next year. It might be close but I don't think MS can hold back the PS4 momentum…
Well, at least they used Facebook as a source. If they used Twitter, or heaven forbid, 'Google Plus' *shudder* we may have to question the integrity of this thing.
But since they used Facebook, it's safe to assune that this is legit.

Ooh, I sure hope they do YouTube and the GameSpot forums next! Now THAT will provide accurate statistics.
I don't know numbers, but I do now that Xbox 1 has the game selection atm. After 2014 is over though it's going to be a real fight. Unc 4, Order , bloodborne, NOT NO MANS SKY, etc.
I seriously see them evening out as it should be. Wii U I hope crashes and burns
I don't get why people keep dissing the Wii U. It's a great system, and deserves better.
Anyways. I agree for the most part. The Xbox One interests me for games more so than the PS4, which only has LBP3 in my must buy list. Sunset Overdrive looks epic.
Still, 2015 belongs to the Wii U in my mind.

Aside from sunset overdrive and thats a maybe bc i wanna try out before i even buy it, i really dont see any games worth getting on X1 right now… The games i mostly want are multiplatform which are games like Assassin creed and Destiny, and to what i see online most run better on PS4 so thats where i'm getting them… And next year is when most of Sony AAA titles come out and as of yet i've seen little info on any games fom X1 has to counter Sonys momentum… Mayb they'll announce something on TGS we'll see…
PS The Wii U has been useless to me since launch but some of the games like smash brother, Yoshi game, and new zelda coming out have me excited to own one
I love my Wii U
I love my PS4
You… not so much.
haha! Facebook…
It's good to see that not ALL facebook 'likes' come from India and Indonesia.
Playstation fans are probably less given to hanging out on the Facebook.
I don't even have one anymore.
Wouldn't PlayStation fans be more interested in Facebook, given the rich social media integration in the PS4?
Why would you get rid of your Playstation LV?
Cesar,
I was referring to Facebook, not Playstation. I would never get rid of my Playstations.
I was being sarcastic.
You son of a….
Glad to be living in a blue state.
I live in the wrong kind of blue state… It's green… 🙁
I bought my son an xbox1 last christmas. He has only 3 games that he really likes and use for this console, then I bought him Titanfall two months ago and he was so disappointed at the game that he didnt tell me that he wanted to sell/trade the game (30-40% of what I paid of course) so bad. Then I started looking for more available games, and found out that the most promising titles are scheduled by the end of the year or even 2015? What? A brand-new video-game-console with so few games to play? Where do they get this results? OK, I don't live in US, but as a father I would be as disappointed as he is… well, at that age, they forget so easily, so he's using 90% of his free time on his Ipad… Damn, I wish "that console" had not been so expensive (and then just a few months later they removed the useless kinect… I hate them even more) TRUE STORY, no fanboyism, or a problem of sorts…

Interesting read. To be fair though new consoles are well known for lacking in the AAA gaming category their first year or so.
Sadly, that's the way it is with all new consoles. On the PS4, I only have three games that I really enjoy, two of which aren't even exclusives.
Same with the Wii U, though it's getting better on that front. There's only 6 games in there that I enjoy and play regularly, even though I own 15 PS4 games and 21 Wii U games.
As with all newly released systems, the games will come. Remember the PS3 launch? Or the Xbox 360?
Point is, don't give up on the Xbox One or the PS4 just yet.

Follow the advise man…
Don't ever buy a console at launch! XD
If all those people who "liked" the Xbox One had went out and actually bought one, sales for the thing might not suck right now.
I think they prefer the system but not the price… Although now they can get one for $399 without the kinect… Although the kinect is unecessary for the system, its still does come in handy for me but not all ppl would agree nor care if the camera is there or not
the state of washington is probably right. gamestops in my area got shipped extra quantities of XO's because they were considered "homestate" stores.
I don't know if facebook "likes" are the best way to determine sales trends, but it doesn't seem like it. Looking at top video game sellers on Amazon appears to tell a different story. I know top sellers on Amazon isn't telling the whole story of sales in the US either, but at least it is a sampling of actual sales. Best sellers in video games show that PS4 is currently #7 and XB1 (new SKU) is #50. Currently at #1, is The Last of US remastered. You'd think that if the XB1 were as popular as the facebook poll shows, current sales trends on Amazon would reflect this more in XB1's favor.
I would like to point out to everyone that when there was a Facebook poll at about this time last year, asking which console gamers would choose, it was about 95/5% PS4. The poll actually had to be stopped early it was so one-sided.
That was just Facebook. So is this. There is a VAST difference between now and then, yes?
Was the poll given by the same company? Were both polls the same number of people? There are so many variables that could have gone into them. I don't find either poll to be credible simply based on what I know about polling.
I do agree with you that the X1 is going to be more popular in the States than the Playstation. But just like last generation I don't consider it a valid sign of which is better.
Yea agreed LV plus if that many states prefer the X1, and cosidering the larger states prefer X1, then the X1 sales would be way higher than they are now… And PS4 has outsold X1 for the last 4 months or so or am i wrong?? So X1 sales dont agree with that map
Facebook should not be used as a credible source. Everyone has facebook, even non console owners and its just as easy for them to hit "like" as anyone else. Neither this poll or the one last year is credible. Variables have changed no doubt, but why we are even treating this like it's fact is non sense. I go through Facebook posts and all I see are things like this and go into the comments and there's just irrelevance.
That's all beside the huge point that the PS4 has been the best selling console for a good consecutive time now.
But let be honest I'm not saying the Xbox1 is failing in the states nor am I saying that some of this isn't true. But this poll in my mind is neither indicative of what's really going on now credible. That's mainly why it's not indicative because of all the variables.
LV: Considering the drastic difference in results, the variables don't matter anywhere near as much.
And I'm not sure why people think the PS4 has been crushing the Xbox One in the US. It has been EXTREMELY close based on the numbers I've seen. It's only a big gap in other territories, where the PS4 is almost assured of winning, anyway.
Well i knew the PS4 wasnt crushing X1 in the US just beating it by a small margin but like i said considering that map you showed has most states, including the largest states on microsoft side, then X1 sales should be beating PS4 by a large margin here in the US as the 360 did against PS3… And its not… So its hard to take this poll on facebook as credible source since sales for X1 are not matching with this map and PS4 is still outselling it
If this isn't a wake up for Sony to stop messing around and promoting indies above AAA and spending money on useless devices like Project Morpheus, maybe the fact that Xbox One is also topping pre-order lists in JAPAN will be the kick in the rearend that's needed. Sony needs to step up. Instead of spending money it doesn't have on things nobody cares about like virtual reality headsets, it's time to start spending for some third party exclusives especially since the first parties, including Naughty Dog, clearly don't have their acts together right now. The news coming out of Japan today should be very disturbing for Sony. If its planning to remain on top of the sales charts. If it can't beat X1 in Japan then might as well just quit now, X1 was always going to win North America, it's got Japan now, Europe is next if Sony doesn't do something. Sony needs to not just 'win' Gamescom and TGS, but dominate, and indie crap isn't going to do that.
