Sony's goal isn't just to stay ahead of the game; the company also wants to increase its market share.
Yesterday, during the 97th General Shareholder Meeting in Tokyo, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai briefly spoke about the current situation of the PlayStation 4, and the plan for the future (as cited by DualShockers ).
Hirai said the PS4 launch was very successful and the goal is to hold their freshly acquired #1 position. However, he also wants to find a way to "further extend the market penetration for the future." He added that the PlayStation Network's services have been growing and creating a form of stable revenue, which isn't all that surprising. Hirai did remind everyone that 1994 marks the 20th anniversary of the brand and that between hardware, software and network services, PS4 will likely become their most profitable platform yet.
As Sony continues to restructure and recover, it seems like PlayStation could continue to be a guiding light in times of woe. …too much poetry for plain ol' corporate news?
I think there is a very good chance for them to keep their #1 spot.
That's great and all. But I'm less concerned about who is in number one as I am who is offering the best quantity/quality of games. I just hope Sony stays hungry for a wide range of quality productions out of their studios.
So far all they really have is Infamous SS as a stronger title (disregarding sports games). We're a good 8 months or so in to the generation and all they have ready for the holiday season is an oft-delayed launch title Drive Club. There's just something wrong with that.

Same thing happened with PS3,we got Gengi? days of the blade & resistance fom and then t'was along wait until heavenly sword & uncharted with HAZE and constant delays for heavy rain in between but the trickle soon turned into a flood.
Have no fear its COMING! AHAHA
Anyway ya got The Last of us in july so…
If i could go to Rekall and get the memory of playing TLOU erased so i could play all over again….i'd consider it…maybe
nah… lets just go out of business instead.
1994 was a long time ago.
Ha! Were u in diapers?
I believe PS4 will continue to dominate the competition this generation. I have no fear the flood of exclusive high quality games are on their way. Patience…
As long as they keep their commitment to a broad range of quality games, I think they'll do very well. All signs are good at this stage, and for all the 'where are the games' people, the first 12 months is always a little thin on the ground – we've actually done better than the PS3, imo, and probably not far off as good as the PS2 (game-wise).
of course they do, everyone does!
but im sorry kaz but if $ony keeps going the way there going, turning up to the industries biggest events showing only their d*cks and LBP3, than there going to loose said spot VERY quickly!
it amazes me how many times $ony has let their arrogance bite them in the a$$, yet they never ever have learned from it!
as the saying goes fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
whats going to bring in the holiday dollars and sell more units?
TLoU?
no.
LBP 3?
god no!
driveclub?
again god no, this is ps4 not f*cking facebook!
ninty has zelda, and a multitude of new IPs and dont forget bayonetta 2.
M$ has forza horison, halo HD collection, sunset overdrive, and more!
whats going to bring in the holiday dollars for $ony?
there TV sales have been dragging them on the road for years, and so has their laptop sales hense why its no more.
xperias never been that popular, nor has their car audio brand xploid.
nor has their severely overpriced headphones.
so again i ask whats going to bring in the holiday dollars?

I think if we're going to count Halo as a big deal, than a remaster of arguably the last gen's best game in TLoU is also a big deal. That said, I agree, with Sunset Overdrive, Bayonetta 2 and obviously Smash Bros. there's more to offer on the competition this holiday. It's utterly ridiculous that Sony lost an Insomniac game to MS and it's beyond ridiculous that with all the first parties Sony has the best PS4-only game it has to offer this holiday is DriveClub, a game that would've been out a year ago at launch if Evolution was even a halfway decent studio. I knew Uncharted wasn't this year with all the nonsense going on at Naughty Dog this year and the fact that TLoU was a big undertaking and just released in 2013. But to not have anything other than DriveClub? Ready at Dawn is another useless studio. I think Sony was counting on The Order a little bit but that game is clearly going to suck so I can't blame Sony for delaying it. I do however blame Sony for relying on a useless studio like that when Insomniac was out there pitching the idea of Sunset Overdrive. Yeah, lets skip on an great looking game from a great studio with an awesome history on PlayStation consoles for generic third person shooter 8 million from a terrible studio that can't even get multiplayer in the game. Horrible.

I dunno… I got LBP 3 reserved on PS4.
I got SSB and Hyrule Warriors reserved on my Wii U.
I don't even HAVE an Xbone.
X1 topped the charts in Japan recently. If that isn't a bad sign I don't know what is. Xbox One is going to win North America again, I think that's been a forgone conclusion. Sony needs to hope that it can at least stay close this time though. If Sony can stay close in NA, hold onto Europe and somehow win Japan back, it has a chance to remain number 1, but it's not going to be easy. With Japan believing in the Xbox now, that can't be a good sign for Sony. Somebody over there needs to stop hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock.
