Yeah, Call of Duty is mostly about the multiplayer.
But there's a decent chance that the upcoming entry, Advanced Warfare , will sport a solid narrative. We learn more about the work going into the story in a brand new behind-the-scenes trailer.
Creative director Bret Robbins says it's difficult to go for realism when the subject is a futuristic war. However, that hasn't stopped the team at Sledgehammer Games from working hard on writing the most believable and intriguing story possible. In fact, they've been working on it for over three years, and they even hired military branches from multiple branches of the special forces to assist.
Sledgehammer tapped futurists as well; these are people who specialize in predicting the future, and they've helped make the weapon and equipment designs plausible. Oh, and if you hadn't already guessed, Sledgehammer is utilizing full performance capture for the characters. That's why it was so easy to recognize Kevin Spacey, huh?

They hyped storyline for ghost and look how that turned out. I don't see the hope in this.
In Ghosts defense, the single player story was the only redeeming quality of that game. It WAS kind of good.
It's a shame the multiplayer was just so incredibly shite.
They made a big deal in the run-up to Ghosts that they'd hired an Academy award winning screenwriter for (Steven Gaghan, Traffic) and what came of that? Even at it's best, CoD has only been passable in the story department so why should we believe otherwise now? As good as Kevin Spacey is, there's only so much that he can do to rise above the material.
Edit: I didn't notice that Daus26 had mentioned the story before I posted but it just means that I'm not the only one who remembers it.

So many CoDs out there they all just blur together anyway.
They don't ALL have zombies!
I'm about that CoD(x7)
I'm actually looking forward to the game but I'm not convinced the singleplayer is going to be that great. The story might be good, it might be a ton of fun to play but it will likely be over in 5 hours.
