We know Grand Theft Auto V is headed to the PlayStation 4, thanks to Sony announcing the fact during their E3 conference last week.
They said we can expect a significant visual improvement and perhaps "something special" as well. In the meantime, we can view a comparison video, as produced by Digital Foundry.
The side-by-side trailer shows off the added dynamic nature of the surrounding environment in the PS4 version; there's better lighting, increased texture and detail, and better draw distances. It looks great but when you do comparisons, don't you have to use the exact same set of footage…? I dunno, that's how I'd do an accurate comparison, anyway. Even so, the newer iteration will indeed be quite pretty.
The game will also be available on the Xbox One and PC, if you're wondering.

Haha – wow. What I see here is essentially an demonstration on how outdated the PS3 really became.
And I am just *so* happy I waited. This autumn it's time for the *real* GTA4 🙂

Or how great it ran considering the outdated tech?
Same here. Looks amazing on PS4. I have a feeling they made the game intending to release on new gen, the just "dummed" it down for old gen for the sales. The kind of detail the are showing on PS4 looks like it would take forever to accomplish by just remastering old version.
I have to agree with sawao. It seems to show more how great it looks on the PS3 despite its limitations. Anyway, an actual comparison of exact footage would have been a lot more helpful.
I don't see why it has to be the exact same scene – it's the same locations? The differences are so enormous that there is no need for a pixel-by-pixel comparison at all.
I mean, just LOOK at the seas in the first clip, or the difference in life and objects, lighting, the whole darn scenes throughout the entire video!
The difference is just ridiculous – I never expected it to be *this* significant! It's like the PS3 images are taken from a friggin' phone in comparison.

The difference is clear, but it would help if it compared similar shots. For example, the shot of the waves was quite different; the ps3 version had calm waves while the ps4 version's waves were bigger and stronger. The second one where they compare the trees and the deer, or whatever they are, are very different; one is at ground level with the grass and the other one doesn't even show the grass.
Just saying it would be smart to compare shot by shot.
Does the PS3 version even have grass like we see in the ps4 version? I understand it as this is added – alternatively were removed for the ps3 version, as angryPolak spekulates. I am inclined to believe that to be the case, that they stripped the version down for the old consoles rather than added for this version.
I know it wouldn't be fair to the game developers and those that need to get paid for their work, but I wish there was some sort of discount or something like that for buying the remastered stuff. Wish it were that easy. Regardless, I appreciate the work they do.
yeah that's not much help.
Does anyone know if single player progress carries across from the PS3 or if its just the multi?
I will remain hopeful yet skeptical until I see it on my own PS4 playing in my living room. I've fallen victim to what amounts to overly polished tech demos for the last time. If it comes out and looks as good as it does live as it does when they are showing it off I will be pleasantly surprised, but if it comes out and looks like it was downgraded from what they have been showing then oh well.
"Every now and then I fall
Every now and then I lose control
In your eyes I see your ghost surrounding me
And I've a little bit of thought for you"
Love that trailer song for some reason. Super chill. Also the game looks fantastic on the ps4. I hope with the amount of money these guys made that they'll throw out the game as 50$ or 40 or something. I don't want to shell out 60 for the same game with better graphics. I leave that to the pc fanbase whose entire existence is based on graphics.
Makes me want a ps4 even more. Oh well.
Looks light night and day soooo glad I waited. I had a gut feeling from the beginning that they would re-release it for the PS4 glad I listened to that feeling because not playing GTA V about killed me.

Well. Looks like I have to platinum GTA V on Ps3 now before the Ps4 version is released. That won't be too hard 🙂
I have all the online trophies handled. I just need to do some trophies for the single player campaign and that should be easy.
THe sheer volume of the land and cityscapes is amazing. I'm no fan of GTA games but I may have to check this out just to observe the superb modeling recreation of all these environments.
I hope is not a waste of money to remaster a recently released game. Who would buy a game twice for more pixels? Obviously for the gamer who hasn't played it, the PS4 version is the one to have. But I wonder how much money they get on all those HD or next gen remasters? Not worth more than $20 if I already played it until the end including all subquests.
"more pixels"??? Dude did you even watch the video? The difference is far, far more than just higher resolutions.
ps3 version holds it own!
