But obviously, it's a successful business method, which means people like it. And now, another promising game has adopted the F2P system: It's the latest from developer Goichi Suda (aka Suda51) and Grasshopper Manufacture, Let It Die .
A new press release confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive will be a free-to-play survival action game with an "asynchronous online component." The title was originally revealed during Sony's E3 press conference last week, but we have yet to see any gameplay. We do know that when someone dies, that person's "virtual soul" becomes an enemy in someone else's game. As for what exactly will be monetized in the game, we don't know, but we're guessing the usual: Weapons, equipment, maps, etc.
Let It Die has a tentative 2015 release date. The game still has a lot of promise but you have to be willing to deal with those microtransactions, ya know?

Diving in and playing is free. Usually it's a free download and you can play without subscription costs or anything.
What that means is that they also set up a micro-transaction business model. Different games do it differently, but it's where the game makes it's money. Some games have lots of aesthetic add-ons that they sell to make money. Some games unlock more content or "open" your full exp gaining abilities with a purchase or subscription (for example, in SWTOR, after level 10, your leveling speed is drastically cut unless you pay a monthly fee. Not required, so still free.) Sometimes special items or abilities can only be purchased at various points throughout.
Basically, the company seeks to make their money other ways. People complain about it because of the potential for reduced quality in the name of nickel and diming people. Most end up spending far more on the game than if it was not free to play. A very small handful of F2P games have done this well with most leaving people with the feeling that you have to pay to succeed. Others argue it gives you the chance to try a new game for free and decide to invest later if you like it.
The game is just free, you download and play it for no cost whatsoever. But you only get some bare bones. You can play hard to earn new gear, weapons, items, armor, new levels, what have you but there's always the option to just buy stuff with real money. A few bucks here and a few bucks there and if you end up loving the game then you buy up most of em. Profitable, but prone to exploitation.
They want -nay- need you to spend money on it in the first place because it's free and they have to get money out of you somehow. So they can make it virtually impossible for you to get anywhere just to force you to buy what's required. So then they can choose to basically hold the content you need hostage for money.
It's a crappy feeling that insults the intelligence of anybody who grew up before or during the internet's infancy.
I for one would much rather buy the game at full price and sit down to enjoy it. Having to actually go shopping for stuff online is a very good way to pull me right out of any enjoyment as I feed the monster.

If you want to play a f2p game done right , check league of legend or uncharted waters.
Guhhhh. I'd rather Grasshopper work on their crazy single player games. I want me a Lollipop Chainsaw II!

Not a fan at all of this business model.
It's unfortunate especially as I liked the concept of this game…especially with the thought of facing your own dead body in the future…oh well.
Had little interest in the game to begin with, and this just cements the fact I'll never bother with it.
F2P is not for me.
I really liked SWTOR… until level 10. Then it became a grind unless you paid. So no… I am not interested in this game at all.
