PlayStation Now has been in a closed beta phase on the PS3 for some time. But when will the open beta roll out?
Well, as announced during Sony's E3 presentation, their new streaming service will debut on the PS4 in the US (and parts of Canada) on July 31, 2014. It will then come to the PS3 in September, followed by the Vita and PlayStation TV at the end of the year.
The beta on PS3 has been going on since January, and Sony has appreciated the constructive feedback from testers. The beta on PS4 will initially feature over 100 titles "covering a wide range of genres," and Sony is currently working with their publishing partners to test certain rental periods and prices. Rentals could be as low as $2.99, and most titles will be priced between $2.99 and $9.99. This is definitely a very important new service for the PlayStation brand.
If you've tested out Now on the PS3, what do you think of it?
Be fun to see if it squashed Pachter's doom prediction.
Honestly though it'd be awful to rent a game for that cost and then have network trouble. I know this service would never work for me and my Xfinity.
very curious about this.
Was there any news about emulation of any kind of the ps1 and ps2 games?
Specially the ps2 games would be very great.
I got in the beta a few days ago and I was not expecting it to run as smooth as it does. The graphics and audio look and sound like you are playing a game off a disc or one that has been downloaded. There's a slight lag in the controls, but when I say slight I mean very slight. Won't be an issue other than in twitch based games. Load times could be better but I have played disc based games with longer load screens. I have seen in other forums people complaining about the video quality but that was at least a few months ago and I'm guessing Sony has been tweaking it non stop since then or their internet service is garbage. I'm on a 20 Mbps internet and all I can say is I was expecting it to be like watching a 360p video on YouTube but was honestly shocked at how good the quality was.

I have been playing in the beta for some time now on both the PS3 and 4. The only issue I have come across is that one game I was playing locked up and I had to do a hard shutdown. The service Sony is offering is great IMHO. Any further problems have not occurred since the lockup, and from the time I have put into it I would say the people with decent internet that can stream HD movies will have no problems.
Off topic, but seriously: No Mans Sky gotta be *the* coolest thing shown at E3… It's no surprise title, it's been known for a while, but man, those new videos?
It doesn't hurt that it's exclusive to the PS4 amongst the consoles too (it will come for PC as well).
it looks fascinating. I'll probably play it
it seems like the dream of old school games finally coming true on new hardware. Which is commendable, most devs gave up on such grand visions a long time ago in favor of small games that pretend to be large.
Haha I agree World, it does. It's how they *wanted* to make games back then.
can't wait to try this. coming from a man without a working PS3 that is.
i haven't tested it but i probs will on the ps4 at some stage by the end of june or in july
happy gaming =)
