As expected, Sony opted to close their E3 2014 press conference with the unveiling of the new Uncharted for PlayStation 4.
Officially called Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , the game is simply slated for 2015, as per the trailer on display.
We'd heard rumors prior to the show that the anticipated title wouldn't arrive until summer of next year, and that seems accurate. Unfortunately, we don't get any gameplay in this new trailer, but we do get a look at the drop-dead gorgeous graphics, which are probably only possible on Sony's new console. In the video, we hear the voices of Nate and Sully discussing the past and the future, as Nate wakes up face down in a stream.
Yep, this is gonna be freakin' remarkable.
Related Game(s): Uncharted 4
A Thief's End.
That name alone gives me a killer sky of hype for it. Normally I don't get excited for Uncharted but… This is the one that I will fanboy the hell out of. Cannot WAIT to get my hands on old, widows peak Drake.
I have never seen anything look so good…that was damn near photorealistic, the day UC4 launches is the day the next gen really begins.
yah, Nate looked pretty dang convincing. Nearly human real.
Really? It looked like the same graphics to me, but my feed wasn't HD. I'm glad they brought this to the show, it needed a strong name to finish even if it wasn't new.
I wonder if the subtitle means Nate will go into mothballs after this.
I watched it in 1080p and it looked better than anything I've seen.
Good to hear. I could barely get the feed working.

All I can say is HOLY HELL! Drake looks beyond jaw dropping.
Appreciate the link Shaun.
Man. Nate looked nearly real. THe hair. The skin animation and clothing were stellar.
Gotta say. This was a really entertaining E3 show. Not necessarily for announcements but giving us captivating footage of incredible games coming to us. The next-gen feels like it's arriving in full force in a few months time. It's really incredibly exciting.

I'm sure jelly of Insomniacs new game for the X1. I seldom see games for the Xbox (that aren't also on PC) that I actually want to play.
I haven't watched MS's conference but I just can't imagine it came anywhere near what Sony has going on.
THe excitement for what SOny is doing with the PS brand feels really high. MS just seems like they're in a mega-hurt position from here on out and I can't see how bringing the price down is going to do much. They're still selling you inferior hardware for the same price. The XO should be $350, no more. Also. Destiny is the new Halo and Fable is pointless.
I hate citing VGchartz because they have a history of over-reporting MS's numbers but just look at the PS4 vs XO stats. The PS4's unit sales of Watch Dogs games are slaughtering the XO's… and even in America. It's like 1 million vs 600K in this region. That's a huge split and XO gamers have got to be just as hungry for games. I also wonder how many gamers pre-ordered their PS4 copy on PSN, only weakening the physical numbers that VGchartz tracks. Pretty sure Day One Digital isn't even offered on XO…. anyway. sucks to be an XO gamer right now.

I thought the Microsoft presentation was rather solid. They had a lot of varied exclusives that could appeal to all bases and only spent a minute or two on the kinect and virtually none on anything other than games. Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound and Phantom Dust in particular seemed interesting.
Hate to say it but the X1 conference was solid. Also pissed as ALL HELL on the new The Division X1 exclusivity deal. Just goes to show how deep Microsoft pockets are seeing as it wasn't that long ago the team behind it were saying how the PS4 was the lead development platform.
Also if anyone watched the Spike stream Ubisoft's excuse for it was absolutely comical. I kid you not all they gave us was. "Xbox has the best gaming community" and "We want to support the console with the most Ubisoft Fans"
Really Ubisoft, Really? That was the best you could do?
Sunset Overdrive still looks crazy fun. The new Halo seems like it could be very interesting. The Halo Collection was a real surprise and only $60 with a remastered Halo 2 and all Maps from every game available for online play, it also includes the new Halo Live action miniseries as a bonus along with the Halo 5 beta. Also the new Forza Horizon looks REALLY good unlike Forza 5.
Then there were all the exclusivity deals…..

so Division is exclusive to the XO? I must have missed that headline.
The only other things I saw headline for XO were
Phantom Dust (yawn. the first game was crap and this looks cheap)
Platinum Games game (looks solid but seems sort of male-teen targeted in it's offering)
Crackdown 2 â¦never cared.
Fable â¦.yawn
A bunch of Halo⦠after seeing the Destiny stuff at E3 I'm pretty convinced Bungie left MS to get out from under MS and bring a Halo-esque universe to everyone. It would seem to me everything I loved about Halo has been re-invented for Destiny. Halo seems old now compared to Destiny. Destiny is like Halo v2.0
Nothing about the Division is exclusive to XB1.
The Division's DLC will come to the XB1 first before the PS4. Just like I'm sure the DLC for the new AC will come to the PS4 first.
Actually if you watched Spike e3 all access they had an interview with The Division Devs and the X1 is getting an exclusive launch day DLC that no other platform will be receiving.
A Thief's End
"Can I count on you one last time?"
I don't know if this is foreshadowing but it sounds pretty final.
Nothing is ever final in videogames but I do agree this will most likely be the last Uncharted for a while.
I'd be fine with the franchise leaving Drake behind for a new iconic hero (heroine), like God of War needs to leave Kratos behind.
I wouldnt. God of War and Uncharted are 2 series that were built around these characters. Change them and you lose the face of the game. Just as easily change the name. Or better yet create a new ip and do these games less often.
You can only mine so much out of a character's story though before it begins to become absurd.
And likewise you can't take someone else's story and throw new lead characters into it. I agree its easy to get disinterested when something gets drawn out. And on that note I think we both agree new ip's is better either way.
It does kind of sound like the end of the line for Drake, although they could always go into prequels I suppose for a bit. My guess is that if they don't axe the whole UC series after this, then the next one in the series will be about his children, probably a daughter. or maybe even go back and live the live of a Sir Francis Drake himself, call it Uncharted Assasin, or Drake's Creed or something..
Yet Assassin's Creed seems to do just fine with multiple assassin stories.
Underdog, AC's foundation was never built around characters, it was built around the historical environments it brings to life, and its ability to let the player experience that particular time in history. It's designed to have a new protagonist for every major instalment. UC is ALL about characters, the actual plot line is secondary to the characters, their conversations, and relationships.
If you think AC isn't about the characters, and I mean this in the nicest possible way in the words of my brethren from my homeland, you're blowin' smoke outcher arse, friend.
Might as well say Uncharted is all about the treasure hunting, puzzles, and spirit of adventure or that TLOU is all about the zombies.
In fact, if anything, UC's stories and characters, while interesting, are far more generic than AC's. From a character development perspective, for example, Ezio has far more going on than Drake.

Underdog- AC is entirely different. From The First Game You Knew it spanned over different periods of time and each game would potentially have a new character. The only constant was Desmond. AC is meant to have different characters to attach all the time periods to one. There's no relevance at all to this.
Now if let's say Nate had a younger protege who became the lead character that's fine to an extent. However, I'm certain the story and gameplay elements would be similiar in different circumstances. That doesn't sound to me like an upgrade. Asfor Kratos, wwe'll the game was called God of War because of his story. Don't know how you could attach another character to that name.
Underdog- my appologies. I didn't connect your comment with Chinooks until just now. I assumed you were responding to the topic broadly. I think you were referring to Chinooks comments about "Drakes Creed"?
Yeah, my original response was sort of just out there as a contribution to the discussion. So to everyone in the line so far. Not for anyone specifically.
I understand that AC was meant to span across the centuries, but that's not really my point. My point is more that character development is extremely important to AC, and I don't think people should downplay that just because we were supposed to expect them to go from character to character. I'm not even suggesting UC should move to a new character, though. Just that the spirit of a good game can stay true to what it is no matter who the character is so long as the character's good. I don't think AC2 would have been very good if Ezio was shallow and uninteresting, you know?
Heck, people still loved Halo ODST despite it not being about Master Chief, for example.
I don't think the character matters, a good team can use the basic world to do more great things with new characters. The world of exciting relic hunting wouldn't have to change at all without Nathan, or the sarcastic tone, or the globe trotting adventure, or the historical fiction mishmash. The only key is that the new characters are just as lovable and not some crappy wannabes.
O em gee! Seriously though Wow! I didn't think we would see something look that good for awhile. The next generation begins here.
I'm surprised they didn't recast the voice talent just because the character models don't look exactly the same.
Nolan North IS Nathan Drake. It's sacrilege to even think of recasting Drake.
Same was the case with Snake
video only had 360p available but could still tell that graphically was impressive, just hope it plays better than the last one. Not that 3 wasn't great, but I thought 2 was better.
I think 3 was the victim of 2's success.
maybe, but I've gone back and played them both, 2 definitely had better control.
Embodying this E3's god awful trend of CG trailer(or even if real time, NO actual gameplay) for announced games. Hopefully Nintendo can bring the games tomorrow because these two today were extremely underwhelming and boring.

Considering your track record, I'm not sure anyone here cares what you think.
Why do you post on a gaming site? You don't seem to enjoy gaming at all…
I care about gameplay, not movies. A guy getting up and walking into the woods means absolutely nothing to me. This was touted as "mind blowing". This certainly wasn't for me. And i cant imagine how this could automatically lay claim to amazing when Arkham Knight looked so damn good. GAMEPLAY..

I would argue that if you are the type to skip all cutscenes and only go to the gameplay, you don't really care about games today nor the future of games.
Gaming history is almost identical to early movie history. It's only a matter of time before it becomes the norm to be artistically expressive on a regular basis. Either you're down with that, or you aren't.
You are too obsessed with gameplay man.
I love cutscenes. I love games that can strike that emotional chord. I cried at the end of MGS3. That ending was powerful. The events right before battling the last Colossus in SotC. Again, powerful even with zero dialogue. That being said, I cannot get excited for a game merely through cutscenes no matter how good they look. And with this, in particular, its goddamn boring. Drake's been in a forest or jungle setting in EVERY game. Its not like the UC2 teaser and it sure as hell isnt as intersting as Drake walking past bits or wreckage and that pull back reveal of the crashed cargo plane just as Drake finishes that TE Lawrence quote "This i did" then the walk to the massive desert and those quick cuts of random action that formed 11 1 11. That was awesome and i didnt even care much for UC3 but i gotta give props to those amazing trailers they had leading up to release.
.
"I care about gameplay. Not movies."
"I love cutscenes!"
dafuq ever, man!
DO. WANT.
This is why I don't buy the hype anymore, I'm not impressed at all I wanna watch gameplay, this kind of trailers only impressed me on the PS1 days.
That said I'm sure this game gonna deliver, can't wait for some gameplay videos.

Given how people have been leaving that studio at a rate that would suggest it is on fire, a 30 second pre-rendered trailer does very little to sell me on the idea of ANOTHER Nathan Drake game. Hopefully he'll actually die (as the title suggests he may) and Naughty Dog can make something new.
