Here’s Why There Will Be No Reason To “Rage Quit” In Driveclub

Ah yes, the "rage quit." It's well known to fans of online multiplayer.

It happens a lot when racing online, too, and it can be a real detriment to other, more determined, players. However, you won't have to worry about it in the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Driveclub , as posted over at the PlayStation Blog .

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky says the easiest way to avoid this is to de-emphasize the importance of winning:

"I play a lot of racing games and I’m a pretty good driver, but I’m not always the guy who’s in first place. I like to have fun and take risks, rather than obsess about perfecting every single corner. The problem for drivers like me, and I think we’re in the majority, is that racing becomes too intense and intimidating when it’s all about winning."

Instead, Driveclub always "gives you new goals to aim for," so just because you don't finish first doesn't mean all is lost. It's not an "all or nothing" mentality; if you have a good performance, you'll earn points, which means every event should prove useful in some way. Finished Rustchynsky:

"With DRIVECLUB, if you’re racing online and you make a mistake it’s not game over. You don’t lose everything and you’ve still got dynamic Face-offs to keep playing for. In short, it doesn’t pay to quit from a race in DRIVECLUB. Not only will you lose everything that you’ve already earned, but you’ll also stop contributing to your club as well. It’s always worth finishing the race – you still might record a good run which you can then set as a challenge – and there are then additional rewards tied in to that too."

Cool. Too many people get angry at most games as is. I got Hatemail a few times while playing GT6, or they rage quit mid race.

No one likes racing in the rain for some reason either. Whats wrong with a little challenge? K/D thats whats wrong with it. I miss the days when games were played for fun, and not for who has the best records in the game. Who cares if you have a 2.76 k/d? Who cares if you have 5000 kills with a knife? That doesn't mean anything to the people who had a blast messing around and playing the game as it is. A GAME

People will still rage quit Driveclub though, because those leaches are everywhere.

Sure, people will still rage quit but this is about giving people incentives not to.

It also adds consequences to rage quitting, you're missing out on something rather than a "I won't win, I should leave rather than waste time here" mentality.

I like this idea, hopefully it works well.

It's a deterrent, and at the very least, I expect it to reduce the problem.

That's still a success.

Drive Club may be the one racing game I could get into. Aside from Mario Kart that is. I need some combat in my races
