We've been waiting to see more from this anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive, and now it's here.
Sony has released a new video of The Order: 1886 and it features a combination of gameplay – a combat scene – and some cut-scene footage. The latter is pretty sweet, as one might expect.
The third-person fighting is getting some attention, though, as many are starting to accuse the game of appearing generic and uninteresting. There was a time when first-person shooters were bashed for being stale and repetitive; now, after a generation where the third-person shooter mechanic was nearly perfected, we're starting to see the same complaints. Yes, The Order utilizes a standard cover system and yes, there's a standard view when firing.
Is that enough to deem the game "generic?" Watch the video and decide for yourself.

And so the hating has begun. No matter what, people will complain. This looks great, by the way.
Looks freaking AWESOME. I love third person cover-based mechanics! Last of us, uncharted, gears of war demonstrate it's the best format for melding compelling gameplay with a storytelling experience.
I'm blown away by how awesome this looks. A day one for me.
It looks very good.
The weapons… Oh my the weapons, I think it's gonna be crazy.
Now we need the release date
Look great , just hope it won t be hide and shoot all the time a la gear of war .
it looks like a generic 3rd person shooter with some steampunk elements from what little footage i saw.. I thought it was suppose to be a game about fighting werewolves or something
well yeah but they can't just show the werewolves right away
Or something…
That s where it will shine if done right. Don t know about werewolf but there will be monsters for sure beside the humans enemy we saw .
Looks awesome. The Victorian period is what gets me though.
People will always complain. There's just no way to please everyone. You find generic gameplay in many of today's greatest games, so a tried style is not necessarily a bad thing.
The game looks like quality stuff. I can't say this gameplay trailer really matches the sort of "incredible" gameplay reports from the other day. I was starting to think I'd see something unprecedented and jaw dropping. But instead it looks like a quality pop 'n fire shooter set in fantasy/sci-fi old England.

Didn't Sony do a live stream of this game today? This game does look pretty incredible.
Looking damn good to me, graphics and details that can't be done on PS3, I can see the soft physics in motion, and the shooting while doing is giving a heads up to situational awareness scenes that break up the basic 3rd person setup.
It isn't that using tried and true methods make something generic, it's how they are implemented. Honestly you can't judge it on the videos, it's impossible until it's in your hands reacting to you. Even the great Uncharted could be classified as generic under the scope of some.
I mean look at it carefully, it's not Fuse.
Graphics look great and the setting is very interesting to me. I will most definitely pick this up when it is released.
Hopefully they are saving all the paranormal stuff for a future reveal.
I miss when I bought games and was surprised about what happened in it.
Most trailers spoil everything now. Anyway this is looking tight.
Well, good news for you then! The director of the game is a firm believer in not revealing too much before release, there's a lot of stuff that he wants to keep secret.
EDIT- Mind you, with all this hate, they're probably going to be forced to 'spoil' the game to shut the naysayers up. Thing is, I think 75% of these guys are either Xbots or PC Petition Race enthusiasts.

I'm actually very impressed. It's very nice to look at too.
I gotta say the complaint about cover systems is dumb as well as aiming and firing. What the hell do people want? Them to hang from ropes, upside down, between the legs? I mean you shoot guns one way, you duck for cover one way.
I haven't read the complaints, and I haven't heard the complaints so I only know what I do from this article. But from that video I'd say it's headed in the right direction.
I gave up trying to understand what gamers think a long time ago.
Now we sit back and call awesome looking games generic just because they have shown two game play trailers of shooting. Like what did people expect? There is not many things that haven't been done before.
A lot of people say it is generic, so I ask YOU the question, what could be included to make this game NOT generic?
Looks quite grey and has a lot of screen tearing and stuttering but 100 secs of an unfinished game isn't quite enough to draw a verdict in my opinion. The game has quite a lot of potential and those particle effects were extremely sexy.
London fog
RAD have said that the tearing was a result of bad streaming quality, not the game.
This game looks great, finally a game that i like and is also a true next gen game:a game that is not possible on the ps3.Gimme gimme gimme some more of this

The style, acting, environments along with effects…. loving it.
As for those nay sayers. Go play what you like. I mean really most games are generic. But the great ones shine with a story and personalities. Leave this one for those it was being developed for those who want some potential greatness.
So far so good. Leave us some surprises and awesomeness for E3 possibly or closer to game launch.
please RAD, please consider reverting back to a normal aspect ration!
really frustrating just watching 5 minutes of recorded gameplay like that, playing a 10+ hour game is going to drive me up the freaking wall!
would be such a shame to see such a cool game spoiled by something so silly!
It's funny, I watched the gameplay and didn't even notice it.
after watching the video this well be another day 1 game for me once it releases
How about this: If the reviewer can come up with a better control scheme and gameplay mechanic then they can rightfully criticize. Otherwise maybe stop looking for attention via negativity. The negativity rout in the entire metacritics industry, if you ask me, is getting stale and outdated.
If the it isn't broke don't bitch about it!!
Please excuse me while I go enjoy and appreciate things.
I've got some great ideas for better controls, I just need to start a game development company without any money somehow then I'm in business.
Tell me about it. I just want Sony to hand me there limitless black platinum credit card and the rights to all of there most talented developers and say "here you go"
While astounding on a technical level I think the problem is that there isn't enough in these trailers(snippets really) to rouse excitement from mainstream audiences.
I personally was expecting a bit more of a hybrid between tps and melee combat (which still could be). On the otherhand what is apparent, the mix of realism, victorian atmosphere, and the scientific/mystical elements, look to be executed well.
Looks pretty standard fare besides the graphics. The "dragging an injured comrade while shooting attackers" mechanic is very last gen. I have faith the game will still be excellent. Taking shippets of games like Binary Domain and Spec Ops: The Line would have incited the same reactions of "been there, done that" when both games proved excellent with much more under the surface.
How is dragging someone and shooting last gen? Because some games did it last gen. Please define this gen then?
Well it's the prevailing mechanic or sequence that their showcasing here as if it they think it is special. It certainly isn't worth that.
Who said that? Because to me this trailer was only to familiarize people with the gameplay nothing more. E3 is around the corner why would they ruin there E3 debut with anything otherwise…
That looks incredibly boring, and if that's what they're leading with to drum up interest, they've already lost mine.
This. Aside from a worthwhile concept they haven't yet given us reason to be excited for the gameplay or interested in the narrative.
So tell me guys, what would change your opinion? What about a third person shooter would make it not boring?
Because so far, all I have seen is people saying this game sucks, with little or not justification behind it.
Personally that is my preferred style of gameplay after turn based. I love third person and I'm not sure what people are expecting from ps4. It's a new console, so what we have to come up with some kind of 4th person view?
The only thing I am question I have about the video is, do the aiming controls need work or does the guy playing the game just suck because he couldn't hit squat.
I love Gears Of War – so got the feeling Im really going to love this beauty
This is why STORY must rule. What happens after we get hyper realism. Every game will achieve perfect visuals and gameplay so the only differentiator must be story experience and engagement. I know nothing of this games sorry. I will make judgement when I play it.
As much as I like dark, gloomy environments — I would have liked to see the way the game looks during day time gameplay.

E3 is not far off.
I believe I dun fainted a little bit. Wow.
CANNOT WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS!
Looks roughly as I expected it to. I mean, it does have generic aspects, but it also looks very, very solid and if the quality is high enough, I can overlook the "been there, done that" feeling of the game. Especially as third-person adventure games is easily among my favourite genres.
So the game everyone knew was a third person shooter plays like a third person shooter. How about when the next GoW comes out we complain that it plays like an action game. I mean seriously what were people expecting?
it certainly looks pretty. the third person shooting looks solid even if it is standard these days. Uncharted had standard third person shooting too. We'll see what the rest of the game is like. Hopefully there are more parts to sum up.
I am hoping for some ruthless electric melee weapons though
looking pritty awsome so far and it's not so much the TPS mechaninc that inportant it's the new story the new ideas the fresh ness it brings to the table at this point in time that important.
happy gaming =)
Don't know if its a rumour or not but I've heard that being the date set in the Victorian era there's a possibility of seeing Jack the Ripper.

Oh yuck. This looks like the traditional railed Sony exclusive shooter formula. Same sh*t new wrapping.
Good graphics though. Again – as usual.
