Guerrilla Still Cagey About Their New IP

So, what's that mysterious new IP in the works at Guerrilla Games?

They've been keeping it secret for a while, but the assumption is that it will be unveiled at E3 next month.

In the meantime, producer Poria Torkan spoke to Eurogamer and added some hype to the anticipated unveiling.

After saying, "If I even say one word, people will kill me," Torkan spoke about how software gets better and better during a generation, as developers get a firmer grasp of the new hardware:

"Compare the first games that came out on the PS3 to The Last of Us or GTA5. It's amazing. We had two-and-a-half years to figure out what we wanted to do with our engine and one-and-a-half years to figure out what we wanted to do with the hardware. Imagine when comparably technically advanced studios get four or five years under their belts with the hardware. We'll get our chance!"

Torkan does say the new game is "amazing" and "really awesome," but while it's rumored to be an open-world RPG similar in structure to The Elder Scrolls or The Witcher , Torkan wouldn't clarify the genre. There's also a chance that we won't hear about it at E3, either, especially if the project is still in the early stages.

Are you excited yet?

If it's a no-show people will be bummed, myself included. If it's announced too early then that's a problem too. One thing is clear though, not much effort was put in to Shadow Fall so it should be getting along well.

If it's just another FPS I'm gonna be mad.

I enjoyed KZSF and felt it was a nice change. Playing the game on HARD difficulty was very difficult and challenging especially The Handler. The MP is way better than Ghosts. BF MP is to different with vehicles to compare to KZSF. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I hope they go back to Killzone after their much rumored open world RPG. Also, I hope they have 2 teams now that are working on both games.

Up for a new bet? I bet a PSN-game for the PS4 (can we send gifts to eachother in PSN now?) that we will see nothing from this project at the upcoming E3.

You bet against? 🙂

Oh I did enjoy Shadow Fall, I especially liked the return to some old school mechanics. I just don't think a great deal of effort was put into it for various reasons, not the least of these being that it had much less going on actionwise.

I'm afraid there's no way I'm taking that bet cuz I don't think it will show up either 😛

Sounds promising, but I need more information obviously. I hope it's a misdirect approach and we see it fleshed out at E3. I am predicting Dark Cloud 2 or Legend of Dragoon 2.

Still not sold on the idea of it being an open-world RPG, and I wouldn't expect it to be released before the end of next year (giving it a full two year's development from Shadow Fall), so I'm okay with not knowing about anything about it yet.
That's one thing I don't get about Microsoft's recent unveiling of Halo. They've announced a launch window 15-18 months in advance… You don't do that. Sure, announce a game that early, but not a release date.

at this point I just don't have faith GG can do anything well other than good linear FPS games.
I really hope this isn't some sort of open world KZ rpg. I just don't care for a sci-fi take on Nazi Germany etc. It's old and played out.

It's mentioned in the EG interview that their next project is "nothing like Killzone", so take heart from that.

he makes it sound like yea its amazing now, but its no where near ready to be announced, which is why were not revealing it, so imagine what it will be like in several years when we are ready.
really hope they do reveal this at E3, but if they dont have any gameplay to show, than theres no point, hold back and go off with a bang.
