Looks Like Next-Gen Deus Ex Will Get A Multiplayer Mode

Well, of course.

These days, it's exceedingly rare for a major new release to ship without a multiplayer option. This includes games that absolutely don't need a multiplayer function ('cough' God of War 'cough'), but whatever.

According to a new job listing at Eidos Montreal's website , it seems the new Deus Ex installment will feature an online mode of some kind. The developer is looking for an Online Programmer to specifically work on Deus Ex: Universe , the next-gen project that spans multiple titles and is coming to consoles and PC. The Online Programmer will implement online game features and build a suite of tools as well.

Yep, sounds like multiplayer is coming. It may be revealed when Square Enix announces "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," which isn't official but the company filed a trademark for that title last week.

As long as more effort is put into this than what was put into the the fall. Granted it wasn't a full fledged sequel, but I hope eidos isn't losing their way since Thief was disappointing.

The Fall was a ten dollar tablet game, and for a ten dollar tablet game it was pretty excellent.

The game hasn't even been announced and you're already saying it's ruined the franchise? If you're a fan of the franchise I think you owe it to them to reserve judgement until you've actually played the game.

Nope. Don't need it. I cherish any single-player FPS I can get. Alas… if it must be, then I hope it is handled like the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3 – being a separate entity, that is.

I can actually imagine this being very interesting. Imagine if you have the Neo-Luddites rising up in rebellion against the biotech/nanotech corporations and you get to take a side in this civil war. One side would play very much like modern FPS design, though with gadgets that allow them to jam certain augmentations-perhaps they could also have other natural advantages, like parkour. The other side would be technologically advanced: able to leap off buildings, temporarily deploy shields, use their body as a weapon more effectively, but the use of their abilities would be limited by their batteries. It could create a really cool dynamic.

But I imagine that this means integrated online, and while that's not necessarily a bad idea, I just don't see how it would improve the core experience, if the game is anything like Human Revolution was.

If they made it into something completely different, like a mmo, then I think this might work as a one-off, a standalone release.

Heck I'd love to build a character in that universe and head out for missions, traversing a city brimming with life from a combo of NPCs and real players.

WOrst possible thing is if they just tack on a multiplayer mode onto a single player game. Let's hope that's not the case.

i still think you don't need multi most of the games i played as a kid growing up didn't have multiplayer and if u did it was on the same screen. and so i personally don't care too much because it depends of the game.

happy gaming =)
