Kojima: It’s Ridiculous To Compare MGS4 To Ground Zeroes

Typically, when you examine a new installment in an established franchise, you look at the previous entries to compare and contrast.

But you really can't do that in regards to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes . This is because comparing this new experience to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is "nonsense."

That's what MGS creator Hideo Kojima said on his Twitter page . He says the comparison doesn't work because in fact, Ground Zeroes is an open-world game, while MGS4 certainly was not. Ground Zeroes is also going to be a good deal shorter, as it's only a prelude to the full game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . Well, that much was obvious.

However, I would like to point out that Kojima is also on record saying that MGSV isn't an open-world sandbox game in the strictest definition of the term. He's clarified that the label "open-world" has created some misunderstandings , due to the fact that MGSV won't be like Grand Theft Auto or Assassin's Creed . There's freedom, but it's not about free-roaming, per se.

Either way, though, it's probably true that you can't compare Ground Zeroes and MGS4.
