Battlefield 3 Beta: 6 Times The Size Of Bad Company 2 Beta

Well, bigger is to be expected.

Not long ago, developer DICE confirmed that Battlefield 3 would boast 10 times the amount of in-game unlocks than Battlefield: Bad Company 2 . And of course, with the help of the oft-discussed Frostbite 2 engine, BF3 is getting a ton of attention.

Yes, that attention has resulted in higher popularity and better visibility for the Battlefield brand. In another update at the Battlefield Blog , DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson said the BF3 beta has already seen 6 times the number of testers involved in the Bad Company 2 beta. Oh, and he also added that the beta is "not representative of the final game." Remember that.

"The final game will look, play, and sound better than the open beta. You have helped making sure of that."

See? Lest we forget, that's the purpose of a beta . Anyway, you can bet that BF3 will be one of the biggest releases of the year; some analysts are expecting it to sell 10-12 million copies before all is said and done. Will you be one of the many purchasers come October 25?

This game has already given me a satisfaction far greater than anything I have ever experienced on a Call of Duty.

Yup, I'm definitely not a big shooter fan, but I loved playing BFBC2 with friends. Expecting to have just as much fun, if not more, with BF3 on the 25th and beyond.

I can't wait to play squad deathmatch. I felt like that brought out the teamwork the best. Also, I wish they would patch the beta. I really enjoy myself until I stop somewhere to aim at someone and am constantly bobbing up and down.

In all honesty, I have been burnt out on FPS games for a few years now. I knew I would like BF3, but I admit I'm very surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. With all the bugs the beta has and the fact that it is only one map, I'm still loving it to death. I was going to wait until I built my computer to get it for PC, but no. I'm buying the PS3 version so I can play it ASAP. It is just so good, and I'm sure most of the bugs will be hammered out in the retail version. And if not, there are still patches. Even if none of the bugs were dealy with, I would still buy this game and never regret it.

I was just like you. After a chain of COD games in quick succession I got a serious FPS mp overdose.

It was Crysis 2 that pulled me back in earlier this year and made me rediscover mp. I've pre-ordered bf3 to be my next big mp game.

I love the SP of the BF games, and I know that BF3 will provide a few great hours of single player gaming. While I understand that BETA's are typically a far cry from the actual game, I was a bit surprised at how utterly buggy this thing is. Given the number of issues with just this one map, I shudder to think of what we will find in the other maps that didn't make it into a BETA. I am at least grateful that they pushed the game out there for people to try and are taking feed-back to heart and hopefully fixing these pretty major issues. Because come Oct. 25th, if people are sinking through maps, getting spawn trapped by people camping under the map, etc….you can bet that this news will spread like a wild fire in california and potentially sink sales in an epic manner.

of course it will, but it f*cking better!
a beta should not run the way it does!
how a f*cking alpha can run better then a f*cking beta is beyond me!
hell, look at the leaked full version of crysis 2.
that was compiled in december, 4 months before release and it was still better polished then this!
let alone the official beta, i had absolutely no problems playing that but i cant stay logged into the servers for half a bloody hour with BF3!
i think they should of kept it a closed beta for MoH orders only.
ever since they opened it up its been getting worse!
i thought updates were suppose to make things better, not worse………………………

sure it will look better. they always say that. out of all the betas i particapated in i have never seen a huge improvement between the beta and the final release. i strongly suspect this is close to what we will get-at least on the mp side. maybe it can happen but ea/dice have a ton of work to do. this is not an impressive debut for frosbite 2.0.

there are so many things wrong with graphics it's not even funny. this beta is just plain ugly looking. ugly textures, ugly shadows, screen tearing, and all kinds of aliasing issues. either way this beta was a bad idea.

Sooner or later I definitely will buy Battlefield 3. The beta made me a fan.

If people think the graphics are going to radically change in a month they are dreaming. I think BF3 Beta has done them more harm than good.

i agree with the sentiment that this beta has done far more harm than good. i am skeptical we are going to see a radical change in graphics as well. if that is the case ea/dice will lose a lot of cerdibity. this is just a poor quality beta no matter how you slice it.

I have to agree. I was expecting much more from the beta. It's just not quality enough and minor bugs that pile up.

I don't plan on buying MW3 at all and I wanted to see what BF had to offer. I hope for the fans of BF3 that the final version is far better than the beta..B/c to be honest nothing I saw in the Beta made me feel as if it could compete with MW3

I can partially agree there won't be a major change graphically but it should turn out more crisp. For many, many people the beta has garnered more pre-orders actually and I'm pleased with the gameplay. I cannot even begin to explain how much more impressed with BF3 than I am with anything MW3. The gameplay I've seen looks identical to what IW produced in 2009.

MW3 looks identical to MW2 and uses the same crappy engine with the same weapons, crappy sound design, character models, and the same MP. The perfect word to describe it wouldn't be generic just redundant or repetitive. Blops actually offered a pretty decent amount of content last year.
