Metal Gear Solid Movie Will Feature “Unkown Actor” As Snake

It'll be interesting to see how dedicated fans react to this piece of news.

We know a movie based on Hideo Kojima's epic Metal Gear Solid franchise is in the works, and the master spoke a little about the project at the Eurogamer Expo.

Firstly, Kojima isn't writing or directing the film, but he will be involved as a "supervisor" of sorts. Secondly, it seems he had initially considered Hugh Jackman (Wolverine might've been good for this part!) for the role of Solid Snake, but they ultimately opted to go for an "unknown actor." The idea is to give someone a chance to make a name for themselves as Snake. Given the legendary nature of the character in question, it could be a dream gig for any actor hoping to make it big.

Of course, we're a little miffed that Kojima isn't involved in the directing or writing, but at least he'll be around in some capacity. And we remain convinced that he'd never be part of something that ends up being a black mark on the MGS series.

This is probably a good thing. As loon as the guy they're cast on the role of Snake is someone that really resembles him well and is able to give that certain vibe, then it's all good. And maybe, he wouldn't mind if his voice would be overdubbed with David Hayter's (if they would really push for that).

Anyway, I hope that this one at least turns out to be decent. I am better off not holding my breath for it.

hey unknown actor means more funds for the rest of the production!

I figured out why game movies don't work, they try to force a game narrative into how movies are made and movie narratives are told. That will never work, they need to force cinema to tell the story the way a game would instead.

I think the idea of an unknown actor or non-star is the best idea as long as he is good and not too wet behind the ears. You can't have a hollywood star stealing the spotlight from the character. It's supposed to be "the Metal Gear Solid movie," not "the latest Hugh Jackman movie".

Incidentally I read somewhere Tom Cruise might be the next Van Helsing, that would be weird.

Well, Tom Cruise is weird too.

Couldn't agree more, most video game movies are either low budget, speed productions that are just a waste of time or star some famous guy and is distributed as his latest action movie.

This could be a huge positive if Kojima is directly involved even if he isn't directing or writing.

LOL, Tom needs to retire.

All Kojima has to do is get "involved" as he says, and the the perfectionist creative monster in him will come out and control the whole project from start to finish, assuring pure awesomeness.

I will show up at the premiere beneath a cardboard box.

Could be a disaster but it could be fantastic. Shartlo Copley was unknown when Distruct 9 released and he was excellent cast as Wikus van der Merwe.

This is seldom ever a good idea. Look at Superman Returns. On the other hand The Avengers worked with a cast of fairly well known actors. I get what they're going for, but you also need to consider established actors who are box office draws to bring money.

He kind of looks the part, also hugh jackman would have been a decent celebrity choice.

I like who you chose more. He looks similar to snake and is a pretty physical actor.

I like Karl, but the stench of the Doom movie comes to mind.

Omg, we shall thank the gods that Kojima is not set to direct this one or we would have ended up with a twelve hour long dweller of a movie.

I really hope they get the guy that did the short film Metal Gear: Philanthropy. He was very good as Solid Snake.

I like this much better than them selecting a known actor not fit for the role. With a lot more riding on their performance in order to make it big, really helps bring some comfort to the news.

It´s a shame that Kurt Russel can´t paly
young Snake but he could play a Big Boss part.

Do people really think the minds at marvel are better off hiring a unknown actor to play snake? This reeks of failure. and can and will bomb. Having a big budget and well known actors will help draw people in and surely spell success with a capital S.

My personal choice for snake… christian bale. Have anyone see Rescue dawn? I can't think of no other. He make a good snake..or big boss. Or how about Michael caine as Zero? Nuff said. As a mgs fanatic im very afraid of this idea of a mgs movie part into its a movie that can only be made once. No screw ups then a few years later re boot it again like spider man. This is metal gear. It will be the movie of the century.

I seriously hope that David Hayter HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THIS MOVIE!!!!! He is the voice of snake through every game and I don't think anyone else but maybe Kojima has a better understanding of Snake. Not to forget to mention that he has tons of experience at writing screen plays and GOOD ones at that. He played a pivotal part in the screenwriting for the fist 2 X men movies, and also the Watchmen, so that in itself is a pretty good resume and I'm pretty sure he will get Snake right and perfect!!!!
