When I was a kid, I sometimes saw classmates running around the schoolyard with Mario stickers on their sneakers. We kids in the '80s had a thing for stickers, you know…scratch 'n sniff, anyone? An "A" on your test wasn't worth anything without one of those!
Anyway, check out these bad boys: to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the PS2, Sony has teamed up with Nike to produce these snazzy Nike Air Force Ones, which are exceedingly rare. According to G4TV, these kicks boast "graident color bleeds on patent leather uppers and standard AF1 liners." There were less than 50 pairs made in all and Sony designed them to hand out to "company executives, media people, and other important members of society." If you'd like to land yourself a pair, break out the check book: they're up for auction on eBay , and the current bidding price is $2,135.00. …sure, that's a little steep for a pair of sneakers, but hey, remember how our parents always thought $100 was a complete rip-off for the popular sneakers all the kids were wearing? This is a whole different deal, though; these suckers are definite collectibles. You wouldn't actually wear them; what are the chances that the pair you see in that auction will even fit you?
We've got an idea, though. Let's get all the PSXE readers together and make a pool of cash; everyone can donate just a few bucks and we'll go and buy the special Nike Air Force Ones and…uh…display a picture of them proudly on our site. How's that?
