Some might say it's a mistake to sell a compilation of ancient games during the launch period of two next-gen consoles and a myriad of other titles no doubt shrouding it in the shadow of their collective hype. Never mind that classics are already starting to show up on Xbox Live Arcade or on Nintendo's Virtual Console and Sony's planned network around the same time. Heyday albums like Sega's upcoming Genesis Collection may soon be lost to easily accessible online services, but that doesn't stop it from being a helluva deal.

What will no doubt be budget title of sorts (our guess is $29.99 MSRP), Sega plans to include 28 games, with another three hidden on the disc waiting to be unlocked. A partial list of games gives us hope for the rest of the package:

-Shinobi II
-Sonic the Hedgehog
-Golden Axe I, II, and III
-Virtua Fighter 2
-Altered Beast
-Ecco the Dolphin
-Phantasy Star

At the very least, it should make for a very nice PSP purchase.
