Electronic Arts trumpeted to the world that Madden NFL 2005 had the biggest week in the franchise's 15-year history. Citing "internal data," EA claims that Madden NFL 2005 sold more than 1.35 million copies within its first at retail. EA Sports' college football title, NCAA Football 2005, also fared quite well as the #1 selling game for the PlayStation 2 during July 2004—according to EA's internal tracking.

In keeping with the usual boring quotes from executives, EA Vice President of Marketing Todd Sitrin, commented, "The excitement we're seeing over Madden NFL 2005 and NCAA Football 2005 is at an all-time high."
