By and large, we already know PlayStation has dipped their toes into the broader entertainment space with films and TV shows tied to their litany of IPs, but it’s now been more cemented.
Speaking with BBC, SIE boss Hermen Hulst touched on wanting the broader PlayStation IP beyond just gaming. At this time, we already have a slew of projects either out in the open or in the works linked to some of the platform’s most iconic IPs, like The Last of Us, God of War, Twisted Metal, and Uncharted.
“I am hoping to raise the PlayStation IP outside of just the gaming category and elevate it so it sits comfortably within the larger entertainment industry.”
Really, what this reads off as is wanting to dash PlayStation Productions and just link the film and game teams together. Whether that’s actually what Hulst wants remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure — he wants the wider brand to go beyond gaming.
