By now, you probably know Uncharted is coming to Sony's new handheld, the Next Generation Portable.

But you might not have realized that developer Naughty Dog isn't handling this project. The design duties fall to Sony Bend, who is no stranger to bringing huge PlayStation 3 exclusive franchises to the portable world; they also produced the solid Resistance: Retribution for the PSP. However, Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer told NowGamer that Sony Bend won't be all alone in this endeavor.

"We're not actually developing uncharted on NGP. We're really excited to see Uncharted on NGP, and we're working with them to make sure it's a great addition to the franchise. It's Naughty Dog's IP after all."

At first, we thought the NGP would simply receive Uncharted: Drake's Fortune in portable form, but it now appears obvious that Sony Bend is cranking on a whole new adventure. And with Naughty Dog's assistance, we'd like to think nothing can go wrong… Did Insomniac help out with Retribution ? It'd be interesting if they didn't but at any rate, this new handheld Uncharted should be a big reason to own the NGP when it arrives.

We're just assuming it'll be a launch title, by the way. We have no official information on a release date for either the game or the unit in question.

I'm glad that the Uncharted NGP game is not just a port of the Drake's Fortune. At least that justifies a purchase. And I am sure Sony Bend will do a good job t this game. Not just because Naughty Dog is assisting them, but also because they know how to make good games on portable systems. The Syphon Filter games on the PSP received great reviews!

I would still buy it even if it's just the port from Drake's Fortune. My main complaint on the original Uncharted is the difficulty in throwing grenades. It kept me from playing the harder difficulty settings.

Knowing the controls being corrected is enough incentive for me to rebuy the game.

Not designed by ND? Oh…well that sorta takes the magic out of the franchise, Uncharted isnt Uncharted without ND making it! It's like..not putting Nathan Fillion for a part in a uncha-oh..yeaa. XD

I won't dismiss it because ND isn't developing it. As they stated. It's ND's IP. I am sure they will not let it stain their exceptional reputation.

Franchises that jumped to the PSP with different developers have always turned out well so I'm not worried. See: God of War.

…with Sony Bend in particular. The Syphon Filter games, and Resistance Retribution are some of the best games on the PSP (RR in particular). They've made well crafted games that are fun to play, immersive, and high on production values while squeezing it out of the PSP. They are masters of their trade, but I'm glad ND won't be out of the loop.

if only ND cared that much about jak and daxter after what HVS did to it

Sony Bend isn't brilliant like Naughty Dog. But they are still quite competent. They did bring us the Syphon Filter franchise after all.

And the fact that Naughty Dog is going to be helping them is certainly encouraging.

These are 2 fantastic news. The developer, I love them! Also when it seemed we were just getting uncharted 1 I had to say I was thinking this is a missed opportunity also. I didn't just want to play UC1 again.

This is the perfect way for Uncharted to come to a handheld. Bend are more than capable. Collaborating with Naughty Dog this will be unreal.

I wonder what the story's going be like in this one? I know many people aren't fans of prequels, but I think it'd be interesting to see how Drake got into treasure- hunting business. Plus, it'd would allow the devs to bring back Eddy Raja. Perhaps we could find out how he and Drake became bitter enemies.

I didn't think of that. But yeah, that does sound like a great idea. Using this NGP title to cover the origin story of Nathan Drake.

checkout the motion comics on PSN to see why they hate each other.

I can't wait till more details are revealed for Uncharted on the NGP. Most on the internet are not clear that this is a new adventure. Not a PORT! The sooner Sony can give story details the more anticipation it will build for the new console.

It seems like the NGP will have cake and the ability to eat it too. Its own exclusive games, PS3 games, PSSuite games, PSN and PS1. Android games? PS2???

Ah yes, I have watched the Eye of Indra, but even then, the motion comic hints that Nate and Eddy have been rivals for quite a long time.

Good luck to em, I think it's time to sign the voice actors for Uncharted on to a ten year contract.

This will clearly release after Uncharted 3, which will break records of sheer awesomeness around the globe, so it's the perfect launch title to force people to embrace the NGP.

I'm really glad its not just a port! But I'm also upset it's a new adventure! Because I'd much rather play these adventures on my PS3. The same goes for MGS peacewalker, and the GOW games. They take really good games, awesome ideas, and all around great accomplishments and throw em in this handheld device! I'd much rather see them on the PS3, regardless of cost and time.

But that's just me… But again I'm glad it's not a port because moat psp well and eventually the NGP owners own a PS3 as well, I assume anyways. I think I'm just being greedy because I honestly, probably won't own an NGP for awhile.

EDIT: after thinking about I think a prequel would fit well on the NGP. Like around the same time that those motion comics took place! That would make a great game for a handheld.

Both Awesome and excellent news. I know that lots of folks are going to be skeptical because it's not a ND developed game. But with ND involved, I feel a lot better about the art, story and character as well as the technology. ND won't associate themselves with a substandard game.

FYI: Insomniac did help Sony Bend in the original planning stages of Resistance Retribution. So, that's cool.

This should actually be really good. Bend is studio known for their third person action games, so this should be right up their alley. And considering that ND is helping them, there is no reason for this game to fall flat.

Now here's something interesting. With the development of Uncharted NGP going to Bend, who previously did R:R, it begs the question of who is going to be doing the new Resistance NGP. And that honour actually goes to Nihilistic who, unless I'm mistaken, are currently working on PSMove Heroes.
Peace.

Let's see how this turns out. The less ND gets distracted with this the better. Let them continue producing games for the PS3. Uncharted is one of the few exclusives, besides InFamous and Motorstorm, that I really enjoy.

I'll tell you one thing, when I get around to playing this, I won't be using those queer NGP rear touch panel mechanics. I can see the seats around me on the bus empty out if I started doing that.

Alienange,

Just buy a bright red one & then keep yelling out "Ohhhhhhhhhh, Elmo" as you're tickling it's rear-end butt screen.

Surely, they'll understand.

This would be a good time for them to start cranking out a new Jak and Daxter game for the NGP. Better yet I'm still waiting on the the next gen Jak and Daxter.

or better yet, stop wasting sony bends time and let them make a new syphon filter game god dam it!
i seriously cant believe sony is ignoring this series!
i mean it was one of the most famous series on PSN, it was one of the first exclusives on playstation to really be popular for the brand, and its one of the only games STILL exclusive to the platform.
TM got a revival, so why not this?
the greatest spy game ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!
logans shadow is still one of my favorite games of all time!
