Those of you who may remember the Parasite Eve games from the original PlayStation probably recall all the hoopla surrounding one particular aspect: the heroine, Aya Brea.
There was a particular shower scene in PEII that got everyone talking, for instance, and there's little doubt that Squaresoft wanted to give us a slim, sexy, yet still somewhat understated gun-toting heroine. Well, although we're not getting a true-blue sequel on a home console, the upcoming PSP installment, The 3rd Birthday , has been in the news a lot lately. Square-Enix has released plenty of new details – for the record, here's our preview from last year – and media, including a bunch of super tasty screenshots . They show off both the third-person shooter gameplay and some stellar cut-scenes, which have always been a big draw for Parasite Eve . Personally, the original PE is still one of my favorite games of all time, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the sequel, which felt more like Resident Evil and less like an action/RPG. Knowing S-E, I'm sure The 3rd Birthday will stick to the style of the sequel, but that's okay.
We're still not sure when this one will hit the US, but cross your fingers for a late 2010 launch. We'll definitely see more of it at TGS in September, at the very least.

Argh! I wish this game wasn't made by Square. I wouldn't have this conflict of buy or not to buy. I suppose i can wait till its used. I tired of giving Square money. As long as Wada is CEO, I think I'll start looking for their games in the bargain bin.
Buy it used 🙂
Seems like the PSP is continuing to prove that there is life in the old handheld yet. I wish people in the West would catch on to how good this device is and how good the games are – and that they are worth paying for!
My PSP collection is growing. For the first time in a long time i have a nice list of D1P for my PSP.
It's got the best rpgs this gen as well (many don't realize that though)
Crow, i am one of these people. Can you name some good ones for me? I'd like to add more to my list.
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Star Ocean 2
Breath of Fire III (port)
Wild Arms XF
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Disgaea
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (Balthier's here, kicking ass)
Jeanne d'Arc (actually a really good game!)
Monster Hunter
Shin Megamin Tensei: Persona
Tales of the World
Sakura Wars 1&2 (port, great games)
Phantasy Star Portable
Yggdra Union
More than the ps3 has that's for sure.

Nice, thanks meng.
MGS:PW! Wow! This game blows my expectations from any other game. Coz what this game manages to squeeze in the tiny UMD doesn't justify the lack of content I now percieve from other PSP games. Just WOW!
I know right! I feels like a full MGS game squeezed into a tiny 1.8 something GB.
LOVE IT!
The first 2 games are gold I tell you! Gold!! While SE is on my "bad" list atm. I can not wait for this game. The PE world is full of possibilities.
I didn't like the second one too much. I never finished it. I still own it, i suppose i should give it a try again.
I want a PS3 version.
I have a PSP but I hate playing for prolonged periods of time on it.
Same, after about an hour or so i find it hard to focus. I played Peace Walker for close to 2 hours then when i tried t watch a movie, i couldn't. I had to go take a nap to get my eyes to focus again.
Is the ps1 version at PSN. If not is it going to be?
No, I don't think it's on the PSN, but I hope it comes soon.
I loved the second game, i have only just started to play the 1st due to it not being released in the UK… It seems more action orinated than before, i'll definatly be keeping my eye on this.
This is one of those much talked about series' that I missed out on. I really wish I could get my hands on the first one, on psn preferably, but I'd take a ps1 disc too, if only I could find it.
They need to make these PSP games playable on PS3, even if they don't look all that fantastic I just can't get enough RPGs and that is where they are all heading. Sadly by the time I got into PEI, it was already the PS2 era and I couldn't find a copy of part II, but it sounds like you guys didn't like it much.
Edit: just looked at the screen shots, she's still got it goin on. Funny how the anime-style complainers shut up when it comes to the females 😉

Nice new look, world. Didn't recognize you there for a sec 🙂
hehe, this is my plea for solidarity in the matter of old Cole vs New Cole.
Yup, psp gets all the good rpgs
Never got to play the original Parasite Eve (was there a sequel?)
But this game looks great, might get it.
Yup, PE:2 was released for the PS1 shortly before the PS2 was released, thus why no one knew or cared about it. I didn't know about 3rd bday until a few weeks ago, and I was a massive fan of the PE games, like, somewhat disturbing. I had a friend airbrush a picture of naked Aya and Eve embracing on the side of an old PC case years ago, the wife hated it, and it has a new home at a bachelor friends house holding in the guts of his surfbox, hah.
Anyhow, this will actually force me to finally buy a PSP. Perhaps I will see if any of the local pawn shops got a 3000 for a decent price.
I think the reason why PE was out of the spotlight. Is the lack of any good movie/anime adaptation. well…..now that I think about it. Madonna did buy the right to PE shortly after PE2. ; ;
another RPG?
wow were starting to drown in them!
so does that mean will be getting some platformers, and survival horror games now?
Are you kidding me! My god, you never cease to amaze me with this nonsense. We're drowning in RPG's this gen? Really?!
We are drowning in SHOOTERS! Not JRPG's. How about you go away until you actually start playing games.
im actually playing thru the first game as well as FF9. PE was great but somewhat short compared to other SE rpgs of the time. The Chrysler Building is still a challenge. 2nd game was great too, especially since you could get Squall's Gunblade as a bonus
If SE was the same as it use to be, id like a sequel to Vagrant Story as well, that game was underrated

She is cute. She is not ageing at all because of her power.
ahh Parasite Eve. I think I learned more about the human cell from that game than I did in middle school at the time. It's nice to see developers going full bore on the PSP. Makes me look forward to traveling when I don't have access to my PS3 a little more.
