Who says a remake of Final Fantasy VII wouldn't be gigantic? Who says new gamers aren't interested in old-school RPGs?
Well, apparently, PSP owners are all about the old gems from great studios like Squaresoft. If you check out the latest episode of Pulse – now available to download on the PlayStation Network – they reveal the top 10 downloaded games for the PSP in 2010 thus far. And look what sits up at numbers one and two; Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII , two of the greatest RPGs in history and certainly two of the best overall games in history. Here's the top 10 list as we near the end of March:
Of course, you can play both of the top two games on either the PS3 or the PSP but the point is, enthusiasm for those old-fashioned titles clearly hasn't waned too much. Even Tetris , which currently sports a much-too-high $10 price tag, has been downloaded plenty. The reality of the situation is that people have not forgotten the greats from yesteryear so if Square-Enix thinks they wouldn't get a return on their admittedly big investment with a FFVII remake…well, I just point to when they asked about the idea at their Twitter page, and everyone went nuts .
Final Fantasy fever going around.
when is it not around here
VIII is the best FF in the series then VI,X and VII
I am one of the rare people that agree with this. I loved VII's story more however overall VIII was the Final Fantasy game that sucked me into the series and made me play almost the whole series. Except for IX and the MMO. I need to play IX!
IMO you just can'tgo wrong with VII-X all 4 titles have there own strong qaulities.
And VI. That's five brilliant games in a row.
And Tactics came out right in the middle of the bunch.

I broke down and got VII for my psp. Even though I've beaten it so many times that I swore I would not play it again. It looks great on that little system, though. And for the price, you can't beat GoW. May be the best psp purchase I've made so far.
i actually find it great that the way ff7 and 8 are made lends itself to psp quite nicely since you stop and go a lot on the psp, wich works fine with ff's set your own pace kinda gaming
I bought FFVIII for PS3 from the Playstation Network a couple weeks before XIII landed. I have to say, thus far I am enjoying VIII more than XIII. The story in XIII is just so patchy and honestly – mediocre. 🙁
Bit of a disappointment, but I will complete it to the end. Anyway, VIII wins so far for me – looking forward to playing more of it in the summer when I don't have so many uni deadlines looming!
Hey so did I!-I decided that I'd give Final Fantasy a try since i let it slip under my radar all those year ago so i bought VIII.I loved it so much,it is easily one of my favorite games of all time.I like it even more than almost every game this gen.
Oh and rinoa and squall FTW! ;D

Hope you enjoy it, i stil have soem of the most memorable gaming moments on that game (ruby weapon anyone? ) and epic " YES!! " moments..all in all excelent investment.
thats the stuff people got so upset about , the series has elminated stuff consistently since then, think last one that had that true rpg feel (awsome game too loved it!)was ff IX (9) i got em all but might just buy em just so i dont have to make the iso myself.
Do we even get an Ultima Weapon to fight in ff 13? Let alone limit breaks. Of course limits didn't appear until after ff 5.
I am about to purchase part 8 on the Playstation network. Haven't played that game in forever. I would be really happy if they would release 12 on the PS Network so I can play that again. I remember that game took me forever to complete because of my goal to hunt all 50 monsters. I miss that open world exploration. I purchased 13 and GOW3 and haven't even opened them yet. I know they are both awesome in their own right but I think I will play Final Fantasy 8 for nostalgias sake then give the others a try. Square if you see this please make 12 downloadable.
if u dont play GOW3 right now , I'll go all Kratos on ya .lol
someone's gotta make PS2 games downloadable and working first.
Would be nice if we got an update to where we can play our ps2 games on our ps3's as well as having the option to download ps2 games.
I got a feeling that Konami won't give us a new Suikoden until this happens. A tradition with a new Suikoden installment is being able to load save data from the previous Suikoden game.
As we all know the mass majority on ps3's out there are NOT backwards compatible.
Yeah but any PS3 can use and store Ps2 memory cards which i found utterly hilarious XD …
its like a hahaha you can save your game but can play it… lol
Good News!!! Square is looking into bringing FF IX to PSN!!! According to Srawlfx.
9? If that's the one with Steiner that would be awesome. I hope that's a credible source but in reality I see no reason why it wouldn't happen since 7 and 8 are already there. Hope it is very soon.
Its pretty much been this way since they were posted on the PSN. I still own mint PS1 copies, but i still bought these to play on my PSP while on the go. Something about the PSP that breathes new life into these classics.
You're right about it idk maybe a shader on the psp, maybe the lcd screen, color enhancement but it looks awesome
Yeah, no doubt those would be the games at the top. Square Enix needs to look at that and see that they need to steer back to their roots…again…lol.
Final Fantasy VIII
Such a beautiful game…
Best opening to a game i have ever seen.
An incredible game that drags you in, and doesn't let go.
FF8 is the best and my favorite FF game.
Release Final Fantasy 6 on the PSN =)
Wii's Virtua Console

What are you saying, Scarecrow? That it's out on the VC? Or that you'd prefer it if it was?

It's too bad that these sales are probably lost on the insane minds at SE. Much respect to SquareSOFT for all the good times they gave me with these games and others. If I didn't have the discs I'd buy those downloads.
does anybody Know about (dont wanna be a spammer but i love to share the wealth)
Lockers dot com , its an invitation only site that will give u free stuff it 100% works
i cant wait till FF9 comes out.
Precisely, Give me Final Fantasy IX and the ps1 trilogy will be complete 🙂
love it , never could quite get all those tetra cards…and i LOVED playing the dam stupid minigame lol, some guys were haard!!!
I did get them all once, also with FF9 it took forever to get a character to Lv.99, not much point either, by Lv.60 —> your stats dont go up much like 1hp per level.
VII and VIII are my top two games of all time. I still play them every couple years and they are great every time.
Rinoa is my girlfriend 😛

@Teg3sh: I read the theory, and yeah Ultimecia's words during battle are the breakpoint, I found no sense in them until I've read this. If this was the way designers wanted it to be, MAN I feel sad 🙁
This puts the game a couple of steps higher in my list, love me a good tragedy. BTW vs XIII is suposedly very Hammletish, can't wait for it.
Imma play VII again NAO

i had a secret affair with lulu 😉
Best form of transportation of all time hands down was the Ragnarok.
I loved the Gullwing… (was that the ship's name?)
Hey Ben,
Why do you have sponsors advertising the XBOX Live and XBOX 360? I would post a pic here showing but I dont know how.
Just downloaded FFVII myself for the PSP. I wanted to see what all the fuss is about.
I did get half way through the Crisis Core PSP game that came out a couple of years ago. Couldn't get into it for some reason.
So I want to experience the same bliss that you guys experienced before thinking about buying FFXIII.
Is it all nostalgia or is it really vaild?
There is nostalgia involved. I would recommend 8 over 7 anytime though.
I recently downloaded FF7 and have been playing it on the PSP. Is basically my first FF game, started playing Crisis Core but was recommended by Kraygen that I play through FF7 first. Gotta say am loving it, it is strangely addictive and seems perfectly suited to the PSP. Will more than likely try out FF8 when im done with it. Could take a while before im finished with this one though!
@ larsperson
I'm glad to hear that you're liking it. It is my all time favorite. I've beaten 4 times and all 4 times I spent around 120-125 hours on it. They game is built so perfectly, everything works just right. I'll be glad to hear your final impressions on the game.
