echochrome was one of the most original, brain-busting, impressive puzzle titles of the generation, which is why you should be intrigued by echoshift .
We knew it was coming but it has now received an official unveiling at the PlayStation Blog , which is now confirmed for the PSP (and will hopefully become available for the PS3, too, like echochrome ). Now, if you played Braid , you'll have a better understanding of this new puzzle game, as "you will have to play with your past actions." You have a set amount of time to reach the exit in each level and as you play, everything you do is recorded; this creates a constant "echo" of yourself. You will actually have to fail at first because you need your echo, who will show up at the start of the level after failing, to assist you. In order to scramble up certain platforms, clear gaps, or reach some switches, you'll require the help of your…um…past self. And in the more complicated levels, you'll need multiple past selves. Thinking quickly and with an entirely new perspective on time will be essential, so start those mind workouts now.
There will be over 30 different types of puzzles to solve within 8 specially-themed worlds. Furthermore, we'll get 3 different game modes for each level: Cast, Key, and Illusion. Cast has you trying to reach the exit before time expires, Key requires you to find a key before you can exit, and Illusion adds a whole new level of complication by allowing you to pause time briefly. Your echoes will stop, but you'll continue forward. All told, there are 56 puzzles to conquer and echoshift will be on the PSN for the PSP later this month. We'll let you know if they decide to bring it to the PS3, too.
