Taito Bringing Darius Burst To The PSP

Veteran gamers will likely remember the name "Darius," but they certainly haven't played a new installment in quite some time. The last one, Darius-G for the original PlayStation, released over a decade ago.

But according to the Examiner.com , Taito will be bringing an all new entry in the franchise to the PSP: it's Darius Burst , and it should give new-age gamers a glimpse into the past; a past that was laden with 2D side-scrolling shooters. Burst will feature over 11 levels and separate paths for the player, which means that in order to fully experience the game, you'll have to play and conquer each of the 4 final stages. These are the types of games we commonly see pop up on handhelds lately, and they're also coming to downloadable services on consoles as well. It's a little surprising that so many have fared so well in a world of flashy graphics and next-gen technology; perhaps it isn't just old-school gamers who want a taste of the industry's golden age. No word on whether or not Darius Burst will be released outside of Japan, but we'll just be optimistic for the time being and assume it will.

There are plenty of reasons for you to own a PSP, and even more to own a PSP Go, and it's all about the software in our eyes. Gadgets are cool, but the PlayStation brand has always been – and always will be – about the games.

Even if it never gets a NA release, if this is a PSP update of a really arcade classic, there should be a minimal requirement to understand Japanese. Should be import friendly for our PSPs (which are of course, region free).

waaaaayyy off topic: but since this site won't allow me to post in the forums for some reason. I just wanted to talk about the sweet deal I got today. I'm super stoked. I found an add on craigslist from a guy selling his ps3 for 200 bucks. (I was going to buy a slim but I figured i'd save the extra hundo) so i emailed him and told him i'd be coming with cash. i drove there and this is what i found he had for sale: an 80 gig gunmetal gray mgs4 bundle in the box with an hdmi cable bd remote 5 games 7 blu rays and an extra dualshock 3. he sold it all to me for 200 dollars. it is like brand new, and works perfectly. now heres the kicker: he sold all this to me because he needed 200 bucks to go pay off his preorder on his ps3 slim. now i like the slim and all but i wouldnt have given all that up for a slim. anyways i just wanted to know if my fellow gamers agree that i got as smokin azz of a deal as i think i got? (sorry i'm just super stoked and the only people that give a damn are gamers, of which my GF is not lol) had to tell someone lol

Nice deal, but why can't you post in the forums? You know it is two different accounts for front page and forum right?

Makes no sense. You would have bought the 80G for $200. And he could've used the rest of that stuff on the slim.

Fishy.

Or he was very stupid.

Awesome will be getting this, I still have G-Darius for the PS1 and I'm feeling nostagic so I'll pop it in in a couple of days.

That's the one thing that urks me about the PS Store not enough shumups. There about 5 of them that i will get at the end of October but I need more of them. A step in the right direction. And world I do remember Gradius, Gradius V was all sorts of awesome.

Off topic…Batman rocks, got home at 12:30am and I'm just now taking a break. LOL

I totally played the hell out of this game. Love the fact that you can pick which stages to go through. I will definately pick up a new Darius if it comes on PSP.

Konami is making Gradius VI, no telling when it'll come out. I don't know if it's being done inhouse like most of the other games or if they are going to get Treasure to do the work and just produce it. Treasure did a great job with V.

Last time I played a Darius game was on SNES. I definitely wouldn't mind getting another schmup for the PSP.

I grew up on shumups (Sidearms anyone?). For you fans out there you've got to play Einhander on the PS2. FANTASTIC!!!

The one I've never gotten my hands on that I wish was available to PS3/PSP is Radiant Silvergun.
