While we know there are plenty of PlayStation 3 owners who are a little annoyed that Valkyria Chronicles 2 is only for the PSP, we know the true fans will continue to support the new series. After all, we still expect another fantastic strategy experience.

And thanks to more translated information from Famitsu (details courtesy of VGChartz ), we have learned a bit more about the setting and gameplay. First of all, if you didn't know already, the game is slated to arrive in Japan some time this winter, although there's no confirmation of a North American release as of yet. The main character will be Aban Hadensu, a 17-year-old who joins the Rashiiru Royal Cadet Academy after the untimely death of his older brother. The second protagonist is another 17-year-old by the name of Zeri, who is Aban's friend and holds a "burning secret inside of him." The next character of interest is Cozetto Couruhaasu, a girl of the same age and a member of G Class in the Academy, and then there's an unnamed character who we see in those pictures; she carries a Valkyrian shield and a whip. As for the storyline, war has broken out in the Principality of Gallia and of course, the Academy and the characters mentioned here become involved.  Oh, you knew that was coming.

In regards to the gameplay, the BLiTZ combat system will return, and this will include a third-person view of the battlefield plus a command mode that lets the player hand out orders to units. This should sound familiar, but one change will affect how the characters advance and level up: in the first VC, they gained levels according to their class, but in the sequel, characters will be able to gain levels in different classes. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the enhanced customization options for the tanks; you'll be able to alter and tweak their performance for battle. Right now, Valkyria Chronicles 2 appears to be a definite must-buy for fans of the original, and if you're a PSP owner and never had the pleasure of playing the original, you don't want to miss out. It's great for avid followers of the complex genre.

Sweet.

I say:

Zeri got Aban's older brother killed when they were out one time and he screwed up.

LOL ^_^

i downloaded the demo of the VC and was immediately turned off by the cartoonish graphics, i will not pick up this game or VC2 just for the sake of the graphics, altho i heard the gameplay is awesome and addictive.

the graphics of VC to me is just not-acceptable and not exciting in anyway, not that I am a graphics freak — I found the PoP awesome, altho that one looks cartoonish too, but much fancier.

It's an art style. They are going for a certain look which I guess you don't care for, but I certainly don't think the graphics are bad. In my opinion it's a very attractive game.

Yay, more Valkyrie Chronicles. The psp has gone from being a lame portable ps2 to one of the greatest game systems in history. Nice work, Sony.

The art in VC is killer. I get SO bored of games that try to be "realistic" looking. The acerbic reactions of people who want every game to look like it was pressed by a cookie cuter never cease to amaze me. It's no wonder so much of pop culture is formulaic trash.

Yea, this game is ANIME style. I love Japanese JRPG's. They're one of the best. Visual Novels own.

One more reason for me to pick up a PSP. Totally excited about Gran Turismo PSP and MGS: Peace Walker 😉
