Naughty Dog: Uncharted Won’t Go Portable On PSP

These days, many of the biggest titles on consoles somehow find a way to go portable on the PSP. In the future, you can expect big games like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker , Assassin's Creed and Gran Turismo .

But one big-name title that won't hit the handheld universe is Uncharted . According to ThatVideoGame Blog , Naughty Dog's Evan Wells said he has no intention of bringing Drake and Co. to the PSP Go (hey, that rhymes), which may come as sour news to those who love their portable gaming. Of course, one can always turn to the aforementioned titles – and let's not forget LittleBigPlanet – for their handheld fix, and in all honesty, Uncharted is something that should indeed remain on the PlayStation 3. We've already said that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the best-looking console game we've ever seen, and although we could accept the required visual decrease in order to make an installment for the PSP, we wouldn't necessarily want it. Let's face it- graphics do play a large role, especially when it comes to certain titles, and I think we all remember how gorgeous Drake's Fortune was. Just wait until you see the finalized sequel, too…it's gonna blow you away.

So although we always support the addition of great new games for the PSP, this is one instance where we have to agree with the developer. Nathan Drake can just stay where he is.

Do you mean like "platinum"? Cause we have that over here in Ireland for Uncharted. Otherwise nevermind 🙂

The new Jak and Daxter will keep me hooked!

Was it just me or did it look really good/fun at the E3 presentation.

I know that it was only for a few minutes. But it looked just like the old Jak games, which is a great thing.

I really don't mind/care 'bout Uncharted going to psp. That game looks insane on ps3….

I dont have any problem with them wanting to stick with the PS3. They are able to do amazing things with it. The PSP is great but for big block buster games like this, id rather them do it the best they can. That said, i wish Peace Walker was a PS3 exclusive rather then a PSP exclusive.

There are so many good games coming to the PSP already. FF Dissidia, LBP, GT, MGS, Soul Calibur, Resident Evil… I think a portable version of Uncharted would be great, but I'm almost relieved to hear it's not coming. I only have so much money and time to spend…

I know right! I have to save for the PSP go, and all those awesome games. Lets see, Tekken 6, Soul Calibur, MGS, GT, Motor Storm: AE, Jak and Daxter. Damn, between that and all the PS3 games, Im gonna be friggen broke!

I'm totally fine with that decision. I mean we still can play games such as GT, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil and LBP on the PSP Go.

I think that is a great decision, as PSP owners aren't exactly begging for a re-make on a portable format.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the next MGS will be on PSP-only. So we go from the greatness of MGS4 on PS3, to something watered-down and lightweight on the PSP. For what, I ask??

…..wait how would it be even possible for Uncharted to go portable?! Everyone talks about how the graphics of Uncharted are pretty revolutionary, the physics are really nicely done as well, and how there's loads of action in it.

If Naughty Dog chose to make it portable…it would be sort of hurtful(is that even a word?) for the franchise. And I'm saying that as a BIG PSP LOVER and one that is impressed by Uncharted, even if he loves Jak and Daxter better…

I mean the graphics…will of course be downgraded, the physics won't be as smooth, there won't be as much intense action…and if there was expect to see the greatest DROP in FRAMERATE in PSP HISTORY, and also…considering there's one analog stick…how in the world would it work?! Automatic aim?! Sorry…that's just not Uncharted.

I think they could pull it off. The Resistance game was pretty good. But I'm glad they wont, we don't need it.

I know people say graphics don't matter! But come on! There are games out there were the graphics matter almost as much as the game play. Games like MGS4, RE5, KZ2, and Uncharted are some of the best examples.

The awesome graphics let you get lost in the world. It truly makes it an experience.

After playing FF7 for the last 2 weeks I can clearly state graphics are not that important to me. I don't mind their decision to keep Uncharted on the PS3 but I would gladly accept an uncharted for the PSP.

The graphics are a plus, but mostly only the youngsters need it to enjoy themselves.

Graphics are a major plus. How else are you going to show off to your Xbox 360 buddies? xD

I'm one of those people who just never got along the current handheld gaming bandwagon (not counting the good ol' days of gameboy when i was a kid).. Don't really have a good reason why besides I rather play my games on my 42" tv screen instead of 4+"..I realise I am missing out on some potentially great games (I really would like to play the PSP versions of GOW and Resistance) so I'm glad I won't be missing out on some Nathan Drake goodness

November can't come soon enough

I too have a large TV screen, however that TV screen doesn't follow me out the door. The PSP is great for trips, long commutes, and waiting to get your oil changed.

I'd prefer a new *side-scrolling* Castlevania anyway.

I don't care what people say, games like KZ2, Uncharted, and MGS4 would not be as great without the graphics. People who say graphics don't matter at all just seem like fake elitist trying to sound real.

Graphics being for youngsters is true to an extent, but then if they don't matter, why keep making new systems?

I also prefer playing on my TV, but the PSP is great for getting really lost in a story. When Crisis Core came out, I would be in my room all dark, with my headphones on and just got lost in that lil' screen.

I'm not a fake elitist 🙁

I'm simply old (late 20's) and I still regard Super Mario Bros. 3 as one of my favorite games of all time. The graphics don't matter, it's the game play.

Game play is more important than graphics, even the games of today will one day be looked at as nothing more than a reminder of old technology and bad graphics. The games that hold up through the years all have one important thing in common, amazing game play.

I didn't mean you dude! You're cool.

But I've had convos with other people who just sound like they are saying it to sound cool.

I know what you mean. Of course game play comes first, but graphics are becoming so good that they are actually part of what makes the game play fun. Uncharted was so fun because of the presentation. It just felt like you were actually controlling a character in a movie.

You just couldn't recreate that experience in 32-bit.

I also disagree that games like KZ2, Uncharted and MGS4 will be looked at as having bad graphics. We do that nowadays because the games of yesterday looked horrible! They looked nothing like what real people, environments look like. But now games like KZ2 resemble real life. I bet games will look downright amazing in 20 years, but I'm sure KZ2 will still look great in 10 years.

We're just at that point were the games that come out now will have graphics that will last far longer than older ones.

Since the PSP has fewer buttons & one less joystick than the PS3's controller, I can't imagine trying to play Uncharted on the PSP (since there is an action for every button on the PS3 version). If they ever did make a PSP version, they would have to add certain things to it, like auto-target & auto-camera angle. If they did that, the game would be too easy to beat & as a result wouldn't be very fun (not to mention the poor graphics that it would have). That's probably the reason why they aren't making an Uncharted for the PSP.
