When what should be a blockbuster release disappears off the radar for an extended period of time, one has to expect the worst. And unfortunately, the worst has indeed happened to the portable version of Devil May Cry .

As Kombo reports, the latest edition of Famitsu has revealed that Dante won't be headed to the PSP. Apparently, Capcom has pulled the plug and canceled the project, which has been in the media since its announcement back in 2005. But over the past three years, information and details went lacking and most sources simply assumed the game kept getting delayed. Well, there's no doubt delays were involved but a publisher can only accept so many delays, and Capcom probably wanted to move on to other things. Action fans who own and enjoy their PSP are probably disappointed to hear this, but really, after several years of silence, it almost seemed inevitable. We thought the idea of a Gran Turismo on PSP was dead, too, but series creator Kazunori Yamauchi still says it's coming, even if we have to wait a bit longer. But there's no biting your nails and holding your breath when it comes to DMC for PSP; it's just over and done with. Perhaps Capcom wanted to focus all their attention on a proper sequel…? Maybe this means they're knee-deep in the early development stages for Devil May Cry 5 …? Perhaps that's stretching it, but we like to be hopeful and optimistic.

So anyway, that's one PSP game you don't have to wait for any longer. We haven't seen an official cancellation announcement from Capcom on this issue, but then again, we rarely see such announcements. Publishers usually don't want to harp on failed ideas.

Eh…with the new rumored God of War coming out for PSP…who needs a Devil May Cry? I'm frankly a bit glad it got canceled since there was no INFORMATION on it at all.

I await the flood of generic "Is the PSP dead in the water" stories across the Internet as a result of this. Oddly enough I see no significance in the story, DMC is a popular game in Japan, more than popular enough to justify a version for the hand-held. Capcom has a good record on PSP development in Japan, so whatever the reason for the cancellation it's doubtful that it's a snub of the PSP or Sony, and more likely just a change in direction by Capcom.

One of the one things I ever looked forward to on my PS3. I love DMC so freakin much although I assumed this would eventually be announced considering the lack of details, as you said, for 3 years.
