The hot handheld rumor is that Konami will issue a remake of the original Silent Hill for the PSP (and the Wii, apparently). And today, the plausibility of that rumor has escalated.

According to Kotaku, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has rated Silent Hill ; the game received a rating of "15," with the obvious warning that it "contains strong violence." Unfortunately, this doesn't include a platform listing, but most normal people would find it a touch bizarre for the BBFC to issue a rating on a 10-year-old original PlayStation title. Thankfully, there are several scenes the BBFC used to make their decision, and that includes the likes of "HARRY, CYBIL, and DAHLIA" and "BAD ENDING PT.2." Those who are familiar with the original survival/horror title will recognize the names, certainly, and it's a good sign that a remake is indeed on the way. They could be talking about a remake or a simple re-launch of the classic on the PSN – to take its place amongst the other available PS1 classics – but everyone is still leaning towards a PSP/Wii release. For our part, we can easily remember the freakiness of the original Silent Hill , and we wouldn't mind reliving the fear-inducing experience.  In many ways, it was creepier than Resident Evil

We'll let you know if and when Konami finally decides to fess up, but in the meantime, ratings boards are typically good indicators. If they're taking the time to rate a title, one can bet it's in the works.

Yeah, a true masterpiece SH2 was

Though I actually prefer SH1, it just had a little bit of everything. And everything it did was perfect.

Not saying that SH2 wasn't perfect, just prefer SH1's story/characters a bit more.

I liked SH2 best aswell. but i honestly dont see the point in a Silent Hill remake…… the originals still very enjoyable, we already had the movie (which i rather liked). Just ask what will be benefit from it…., id much rather see a new sequel…… which goes back to the roots of 1-3.

Even though I've never played this series except in the Japanese arcade with my friends….I would die for a remake of either the first one or the second one on the PS3, PSP, or even the Wii. My friends also said the second one had the best story so I would like to try the second one out the most.

Would love to see a remake or even a re-release if that's what they decide to do. It was easily one of the creepiest games to ever come out at that time. Since then we've never looked at fog the same again. Part 2 was the best just like Resident Evil but I've enjoyed Silent Hill more than RE the last few years. Even the SH movie was better than the RE ones. Though RE: Degeneration was really good.

Ben, I'm not trying to be a dork but you guys want a remake of a game that you guys said was a crappy and shallow game with a 6.9 rating and said sucked compared to the original resident evil. I still have this game and its probably one of the scariest game I have right next to fatal frame
