Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was another project from Insomniac (also revealed Spider-Man) that showed itself at this week’s The Future of Gaming. A series that started clear back in 2002 and more recently made a come back with the 2016 remake, is favorite among quite a few gamers. This new iteration looks better than ever and also gives us a tease of a new character that looks awfully familiar. Also, if you’re watching closely, the trailer shows a touch of what the PS5 is capable of.
One feature that Sony has pushed a lot for this new system is the extremely fast SSD the machine includes. Which should all but eliminate loading times and give developers the ability to load in worlds with little restriction. If you watch carefully, you can see some of that in action in the cinematic trailer. But to really get a taste, check out some of the gameplay.
As you can see not only do we get the zany weapons to be expected from the series but the gameplay also shows off the teleportation mechanic. In the demo you can see Ratchet using several portals that allow him to instantly move around the level. Not to mention going through the rift and instantly appearing in a different level entirely. This is the kind of thing that Sony has been touting they will be able to do with this top of the line SSD drive. It looks rather promising.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has no release date as of yet, but chances are 2021 is looking pretty good.
