The Last of Us and Uncharted 2 and 3’s PS3 multiplayer is going to be put to rest by Naughty Dog. This choice isn’t too surprising as the PS3 is slowly, but surely, fizzling out as the PS5 comes barreling in. It’s worth mentioning that the servers have been online for around a decade.
In a post on the official Naughty Dog blog, they explained this wasn’t an easy decision to make.
It’s bittersweet to say the least. Uncharted and The Last of Us multiplayer on the PS3 are defining entries in Naughty Dog’s history and we’ve been honored to support the passionate communities that have grown around them for almost a decade. We have so many fond memories from playing alongside you throughout the years.
This isn’t to say there is no silver lining. To remedy this news, for the last few months of server access, Naughty Dog has a treat for their players. All multiplayer content, including vanity items, is free to download until the servers’ unavoidable shut downs.
Naughty Dog’s PS3 servers for the games will shut down September 3, 2019 at 5:00 PM PT.
