I don't really play anything online. I really don't play games with other people, period.
Basically, 99% of any multiplayer I try is for the sake of reviews, which means I actually spend a lot of time involved in multiplayer action. But no matter what the game, no matter how good the experience is, I invariably return to single-player campaigns (and that does include shooters).
That being said, each year I keep thinking the biggest multiplayer game in the universe might finally sway me to the dark side. This year, it's Call of Duty: Black Ops II and based on everything we've seen thus far, we have to be encouraged, right? Just ask all the happy peeps who checked it out at Gamescom . Now, I have no doubt the multiplayer in that game is going to be fantastic, because that's sort of what CoD does. It's what that franchise does best, obviously.
So logically speaking, if any game could get me involved in the multiplayer world, it would have to be this one, yes? Remember, I have always loved shooters; yet for some reason, I can't stand playing them online. One of the reasons I think the first Red Faction was one of the best PS2 games is because it had a great campaign. I loved RAGE for the same reason. And at heart, I still believe gaming to be a solitary activity (for me, at least) and that's how it will primarily remain. However, after I get started with Black Ops II , I wonder if that will change a little…
Oh, probably not. As I say, I ask the same question every year. 🙂
They should just stop making the single player.
I actually wouldn't buy CoD if that happened. I love the campaigns. They were considered short when MW2 came out but despite that I really do enjoy playing the campaigns, if that was gone, I don't think I'd be as interested. Honestly, I don't play CoD just for the mp!

that's kinda like saying they shouldn't have included portal in the orange box
No I get what world is saying. But they should sell a multiplayer only copy. Say they sold one of those for 59 99, but you got all the DLC for free for the year until they abandon the game. That would be good. Or have a digital version for multiplayer only that was maybe 30 bucks?
I think they would make even more money that way to be honest.
Ohhh and they should sell zombies as a stand alone because I would pay 10-20 bucks for that easily.
@xenris
I agree with you hands down¡! I'm a sucker for the campaigns but for alot of people they dont care for it. Probably 4 of my buddies would but just the DLC for multiplayer
$60 for those campaigns isn't right, and they are no longer at the point where MP is hampering the SP, they've gone straight on to having SP hamper MP.
Xenris-
That's a terrible idea. Why would you pay $60 for the mp, $60 for the campaign and then you said, you personally would pay $10-$20 "easily" for zombies. That's $140 if you want all parts of CoD. Even if you got dlc for free you gotta figure they don't release more than 2 packs in the games lifespan which is only a year. So you save potentially $30. Your still paying almost double what you would for the full retail copy of Black Ops 2 with all that included. Yea it's good for Activision. Terrible for the consumer.
World-
I think most campaigns aren't worth $60 if CoD isn't. Really CoD provides a lot of things that other games don't, except an extra 2 hours or so. But I know why your saying what you are and that's fine, it's a legitimate argument. I'm hoping by the track record Black Ops 2 runs an hour longer that Black Ops at least. MW2 took me 5-7 hours, Black Ops and MW3 probably 6-8 hours so maybe black ops 2 could provide me with 7-9 hours. That would be nice. Wishful thinking to even get that? Maybe!
How 30 bucks for MP and all map packs, and 30 for the SP mode. I will like it that way.
Bigrailer, look at it this way, right now CoD is almost 70 bucks with tax, then you have elite which is 40 so your at just over 100 bucks. Then you have ridiculously overpriced map packs at 15 bucks a piece. They usually release 4 map packs until the next CoD. So really for the whole CoD experience including elite your paying upwards of 160 dude.
I was mainly talking about options, in reality it should be 30 for MP only and 20 for the SP only. However when I said 59 99 I was talking about the MP with all the map packs. You would still be able to buy the classic version that was sp and mp for 60 bucks, or you could skip it and get the multiplayer pack that was just mp and all future map packs for 60 bucks. SP could be sold on its own for 30 bucks, and barebones multiplayer for 30 as well.
Make sense now? It was mainly for options for the players. Considering CS:GO is 15 bucks and has as much content as CoD mw1s multiplayer had I would say that activision is really ripping people off. Not only that valve gives out free map packs sooooo yeah. 15 bucks goes a long way. However valve can get away with this because they are a private company, activision doesn't have this luxury.
I see what you're saying, I just don't see separating the "options" beneficial to the consumers. Well, actually it would benefit the majority who only play for the mp. But it wouldn't benefit me! 😉
Yeah I get ya bigrailer 🙂
Do you have a fever????
I think it's "the" not "a"
That's crazy talk. If it hasn't managed it in the past what gives you the inkling it'll happen this time around? Maybe XCOM will do it for ya. I reckon that's what would for me, if I could of course 🙂
There is no XCOM. Only XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
There is an XCOM. It's just in development hell. I was referring to Enemy Unknown, however.
Yes, there is an XCOM, unfortunately. I was making a Ghostbusters reference to show my disdain for the FPS version.
Your reference
——
My head.
Haven't watched Ghostbusters in years and years.
I'm like you Ben, but the only one game's MP so far that I actually wanted to jump into head first was Killzone 3.
And I loved every second of it.
Well, that was till my PS3 red lighted & then the gorilla bunglers of U.S. postal service's shipping department totally smashed her apart on the way to be repaired, and with my KZ3 disc still stuck inside.
So who's replacing it?
THEVERDIN,
Me, unfortunately I had to due to the A-holes at the USPS claims center denying my insurance claim, even though I had insured it for $500(cost me $23).
They kept saying I never sent in the documents, even though I did it twice.
I will never again send anything of value through our government zoo again, & next time
If I ever need to send anything again, it will either be by UPS, Fed-Ex, or one of the other parcel delivery services instead.
Anyways, now I've got the Sports Champion Move bundled Slim that I've already put a 1T HD in, and I re-bought a 60 GB GameStop PS3 refurb that I've swapped out the old HD with a 750 HD, with an extra 2 year warranty on both consoles, plus extra 2 year warranties on both hard-drives too.
So my gaming's back to being good to go.
BTW, the original shop that received my old 60 gigger & then called to tell me it was received by them in smashed condition, was still able to get my Killzone disc out before sending me back my broken unit, and at no charge.

I'd wait with playing online until you got some friends who can join you in that game. At least for me it makes all the difference in the world.
Online gaming alone is a pretty bland experience, imo.

I play a lot of games online alone. I like the competitive nature of it. CoD is one of them. It's good to have teamwork and all that but in most FPS teammates just get in the way. MAG though, that required teamwork.
That doesn't mean I don't like playing with friends. I do.
Yeah I usually too play solo (not team matches), I just find it to be that much more fun if I know some of the guys I play against.
Killzone spoiled me on what a great MP FPS can be; not since Goldeneye have I enjoyed multiplayer so much. The COD and Black Ops games just don't "feel" right in comparison.
Their is going to be a lot of hatred, if they put that rifle with the x-ray scope in MP.
yeh i think the key to playing online is having friends to play with
