As some of you have seen, yes, I'm playing inFamous 2 right now. …I can't talk about it, but I can brag about it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Where do I stand on the NGP? …no damn idea

Since the days of the GameBoy Advance, I've never really cared about portable entertainment. I only use my PSP to play some old-school RPGs that have disappeared from consoles; in all honesty, I wouldn't own one if I didn't need it for work purposes. That being said, the NGP is quite the attractive unit, and one that may offer a very unique form of handheld entertainment. I'm also liking the looks of the software launch lineup ; I love the Uncharted and Wipeout franchises. I firmly believe that so long as video games remain interactive pieces of entertainment, no hardware is worth owning without fantastic software.

But being of the old school, regardless of whether or not the game is portable, I'm having difficulty getting excited about the whole touch-pad thing. It's not that I'm questioning the solidity of the technology; it's more about personal preference. But I won't pass judgment until I actually lay hands on the device…who knows what I'll think then?

Square Enix may not listen, but I bet BioWare does

In my opinion – and for different reasons – Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Age II weren't the incomparable elite titles role-playing fans expected. I will absolutely maintain that they qualify as good, perhaps even great, but in some ways, these games let down the hardcore faithful. And now, it seems both companies say they've "listened to feedback" from the fans: BioWare says they'll definitely fix up Dragon Age III , and a European source says Square Enix has taken fan criticism into consideration . But you know what? I believe BioWare. I don't believe Square Enix at all . I'm sorry…I just don't. And I think you all know why.

But it's an interesting experiment, isn't it? When DAIII and FFXIII-2 show up, we can easily determine which developer was indeed telling the truth. And while FF will always remain my favorite RPG series of all time, I don't have super high expectations for the upcoming sequel.

Personal gaming update

I can't offer anything on inFamous 2 just yet, but I can say that despite a few small shortcomings, the game is just as addictive as the first title. I also need to clarify: I mentioned earlier that I'd deliver an Alice: Madness Returns review this past week but I forgot to check the paperwork that came with the game. Unsurprisingly, the review is embargoed until launch day, which is the 14th. But I've played a lot of it over the past week so I'm ready. As for inFamous 2 , that's also embargoed until launch, but that's Tuesday, so expect to see a review later that day. I also want to finish the last few missions in L.A. Noire ; obviously, Sucker Punch's latest has sidetracked me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Finally, I know I've been teasing a pretty big announcement for a while, and I think we have a date for you: June 16. I hope it sticks but either way, I still can't talk about it. Stay tuned.

That's no different than saying
"I don't want to buy a PS3 for Uncharted; I want it for Xbox." I have idea why some people are too jaded to own more than one console. If you can afford one, you can buy another.

Standard edition. It's expensive enough as it is! Fullprice purchases are exceptions for me, but I feel that inFamous is going to be worth it.

I was playing the first Infamous a few days before launch. Could have been a whole week but when I first saw it for rent at Blockbuster I thought it was a pre-order case until I took a closer look. Went home and saw that it wasn't suppose to be out for a few days. Came back rented it and platinum(m?)ed it in 9 days. Sancho45 is my PSN id for verification if you don't believe me. First trophy for it I got was on 5/23 and it was suppose to release 5/26.

Getting the Hero Edition of Infamous 2 same day release shipping from Amazon. XD so excited!!

Ben,

You need to go to Cheapassgamer's website. They had a mix up at Target and they had Infamous 2 on clearance for $29.99 last week in certain stores.

Ben – Lately dates haven't meant much in the way of deadlines (I'm looking at you store) hopefully you won't let us down though, and you'll come through with some awesome news.

Whenever it happens, I'm sure it will mean big things for PSXE and its members.

Strange you can't talk about i2 since anyone can play it and plenty of reviews are up. The kids over at Gamestop gave it a 7.5. For some reason I don't believe them, lol.

Sadly SE and Bioware have both burned me so neither XIII-2 or DAIII are automatic purchases any more. I guess that's what happens when you fck over your fans.

I hope Sony's E3 conference doesn't use too much time on NGP cuz I'm not really all that crazy about it either. I'll get one some day, but portable gaming is always sub par.

I won't be touching the i2 demo cuz I want the game to be full on freshness. I'm still trying to hammer out L.A. Noire (damn that is a great experience), Ar Tonelico, and some little nippers like Wolfenstein. I enjoyed the Duke demo today and can't wait for that. I gave up on Assassin's Creed II, that game is clunktastic. Oh yeah and I got Yakuza 4 today. No time to play it now but it should be pretty sweet.

Downloading my freebies as we speak. Yay.

Finished Yakuza 3 this week, and am finishing Y4. Wasabi. Very good wasabi. And by wasabi, i mean a palette cleaner. But the best of it's kind.

I'm psyched about i2. I trust Suckerpunch's track record far more than the track records of most self-appointed critic/bozo traffic-whores (not meaning you, Ben, nor Arnold). Some have anti-Sony sentiment. Some arjealous of the exclusives. And some just honestly hype something up so high, that they have to finding faults for it not being the holy grail. And some just have no place writing let alone reviewing. And a small minority actually writes something credible. And that minority shouldn't bother with the rest and their drivel. Their minds and hearts are objective, and unfettered, and unswayed by preconceptions, and bias.

Some of the Infamous 2 complaints by Gamespot were lame. The biggest example is the complaint that Infamous 2 is the same as Infamous. Why didn't they use that complaint with the yearly COD rehashes or with Halo 3 which was pretty much an identical experience to Halo 1 & 2?

Dancemachine55
Dancemachine55

My thoughts exactly. Gamespot's review was quite weak. It spent way too much time talking about the tiny issues that brought the game down a point or two.

Gamespot pointed out that there was a greater variety of enemies this time round, a better combat system and graphical presentation was top notch, on par with Uncharted.

But the underground sewer thing has been replaced with guardian missions, the stick-to-edges and pipes mechanic is a little too sticky in places, and that the Karma system wasn't as satisfying or grey-shaded as the first game. THAT WAS IT!!! And Gamespot brought it down 2.5 because of that.

As long as it plays like the first game and is as much fun, I'm totally getting this Day 1. The Mission Creator tool looks fantastic, and I have no doubt this will add to the longevity and fun factor of the game.

The Gamespot review was atrocious, way too much time spent on the negatives, trying to make the game look worse than it actually is. I can't believe IGN did a better job than Gaemspot reviewing i2, really surprised me.

Am looking forward to Ben's review though. The game isn't out here in Australia til Thursday, so should be enough time to see Ben's review before buying. Getting Duke Nukem day after that, will play Duke first, finish it ASAP, return it then spend some quality time with Infamous 2.

"on par with Uncharted" – an open world, large mapped game being on par with the king-of-tight-quarters Uncharted? That's *impossible*, unless U3 has tuned down their graphic intensity?

TheHighlander

I haven't read their review, and won't until I have played the game myself.

I am curious though, if the game is as good or better than the first one, then why mark it down overall compared to the first one, and secondly, the mission creation and sharing – the online component is a major addition to the game, even if you score more strictly for a sequel, those new features seem like they ought to lift the game's review standing.

PGU: Something went wrong with my credit card and Gamefly so I missed out on getting L.A. Noire but I'm getting "InFamous 2" when they do their new release sent offs on Monday.

I spent pretty much half of my Friday night picking what games I should chose from the PSN welcome back program. So I ended up with "Little Big Planet" and "Dead Nation" and on the PSP I picked "Mod Nation Racer" and I'm still thinking about getting Killzone I played it before didn't beat it tho but I liked it.

And I picked up "Sonic 2" I might get one of those 3 month PS plus membership cards when July 2 rolls around.

Awww… Have to wait until at least next Tuesday before I can play iF2. I want to get a WKC2 review done first.

I really used to like my PSP, but I've found myself playing it less and less due to fewer games on the system appealing to me and the PS3 having WAY too many games. That said, I've anticipated picking up the NGP extremely early in its lifecycle, and having WipEout and Uncharted ready to go from day 1 only serves to ratchet up excitement. As I've mentioned before though, all those games that have been announced for the launch are Sony published, s I'd like to know what the third parties will have ready to go in the first three months or so.

I'm not sure that DAIII will be quite as promising as many people are hoping, as it's been reported that the shooting in ME3 will be even more akin to a standard TPS. I know that will only serve to bring in a wider audience, but it still sounds like a slightly dangerous precedent. Damnit, I hope I can get around to Origins sometime soon, but it isn't looking likely…

Personal Update:
Okay, well first of all, I've come down with some sort of cold or flu that's left me more or less bed-ridden for the last 48 hours. Not good.
Also, I was trying to continue reading Paradise yesterday, but couldn't even keep up with the words, so I've set that aside until I'm well enough to comprehend, and have embarked instead upon Truman Capote's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.
Done a little bit more of FFIV, but it's sort of fallen to the wayside, as I've been playing through L.A. Noire, and wrote up an article exploring the successes and flaws of the game over at TR. That's pretty much it.
Peace.

P.S. I'm telling ya, it's a Home Space, innit?

I liked Paradise Lost. It reads well.

Currently reading "The Brothers Karamazov" after starting the epic literary journey, "Remembrances of Things Past" (or "In Search of Lost Time") by Marcel Proust. At 6 volumes and around 3500 pages, it makes "War and Peace" seem short by comparison. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I finished "War and Peace" last year, but this one is gonna take longer. Besides, I can't read all 6 volumes in a row. Just finished the first – "Swann's Way" – and I'll get to the second later. But it WILL be done.

3500 pages? I'd like to know how long it took for him to write that. Also, I've been interested in The Brothers Kazamarov for quite some time. Let me know what you think of it when you're done, please.

I like it so far, but I can tell you he's no Tolstoy. Not at patch on "Anna Karenina," IMO. But I'm only 200 pages in and it's about 1000 pages, so…

And it took Proust a good portion of his adult life to write "Remembrances," I think.

For the record, most all new games have embargo dates. It really has no bearing on quality.

I can pretty much guarantee Uncharted 3 will be embargoed, for instance. I have NO idea why that rule exists, but whatever.

Unless it's my imagination, the good games allow reviews before they release and the bad ones make sure no reviews come out until at least release day. Embargoes yes, but the longer they are the more it worries me.

It's your imagination. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's just that a lot of sources are so anxious to get great reviews out there for traffic purposes, they break the embargo.

Only rarely do I get a game that has no embargo, and quality doesn't seem to be a correlation in past years.

If the big reveal is some sort of Home space that will be unfortunate as few of us use it. It's a neat idea but I only have so much time and I like to spend it with real games or on the web. I don't think I could add Home to that equation very often.
