There are numerous reasons why certain titles obtain a ton of hype and anticipation. Perhaps it's near the top of everyone's list because it's supposed to be especially innovative; maybe much has been made about cutting-edge visuals, or there's always the comfortable eagerness that surrounds a new entry in an established franchise. For instance, while most gamers want something like God of War III for more than one reason, we all know that SCEA Santa Monica has proven themselves with the previous two installments.

But the situation surrounding Heavy Rain is an intriguing one. It's a new IP and while one can argue that the graphics have certainly garnered plenty of attention, this one would have to fall into the "something new" category. It's not that we've never seen it before – those who played Indigo Prophecy have a general idea of the foundation for Quantic Dream's newest project – but perhaps it'll present a revolutionary step in terms of video game storytelling. However, despite this perceived fact; despite everything we've heard about Heavy Rain in the past year; despite all the media and information provided by plenty of interviews with David Cage, I'm wondering what the expectations are for this game.

I mean, even if you've been following along with all the news and details, are you convinced of the experience? Are you going into it expecting greatness but you're not entirely sure how it will attain greatness? Are you planning to lose yourself in the story? Are you banking on the innovative approach to branching gameplay, in that there are no "deaths," and the plot adapts to every success or failure? Or, are you questioning if this concept even works in the world of video games? I'll be really interested to read the responses…

I expect Heavy Rain to be awesome for people who like movies. I have no expectations. It's like MGS4 without gameplay. Ick.

Obviously I haven't played it yet, I just don't trust a game where the game play is not the focus of the game.

the gameplay is a focus, its just blended into the story, to make it seem seamless. play mw2. when running around gunning down some 'terrorists' is that story, or are you just killing people. they have directly connected the story and gameplay.
OT: I expect it to be another benchmark in story telling. MGS4 was amazing for it. in fact soo good. that im going to stop playing mw2 and start playing mgs4. people, respect me for my willpower.

I question the design decision to hold a damn shoulder button to walk forward. Good story or not, if the controls are frustrating, it's not a fun game.

I agree. (Amazing, I know)

Perfect example….the last Silent Hill. I loved the story but I couldn't get past the controls so I ended up trading the game in before I even finished it.

Great story or not, the controls usually play a big part of whether a game is successful.

Maybe were not going to be walking a lot, maybe there's a reason for that. And those editors naming Heavy Rain as their GOTY last year makes me believe this game its gonna be splendid.

For someone like me who reads alot of books and loves to get lost in the story, this game could be something wonderful.

The amount of detail that QD puts into the story and the characters will ultimately make or break this game for me but I am extremely excited. I like the feeling of spending time with a character and feeling invested in what happens to them along the way. If they do this the right way, it could change gaming and the way people view this type of genre.

I *hope* you are right. Personally I do not expect too much because I have yet to see it's supposed splendor. But if this game turns up to be more than just another (slightly camouflaged) railroad to tag along then this might be an experience that stands out from the crowd.

I've been trying all along to go in with an open mind but it's tough. I'm certain the story will meet my expectations as will the graphics. As for the gameplay, well, i think it definately deserves a shot.

I am hoping that this game will consume my girlfriend's CSI time. I am pretty worn out on Grisom. However, she hates Hiratio, but I think he would make a great DLC. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for her to go to bed so I can play Bioshock 2.

I'm expecting the gameplay to be as real to life as possible. I want each of the main characters abilities to be limited by skills and knowledge they would possess in the real world.

I really expect to see one of the most unique games to grace a console in a long time. I've never played any of QD's games as far as I know, but I've always liked being presented with choices that can have consequences to face whether good or bad.

I am expecting all the twists and turns in the story, like those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books I used to read back in the day; only you're not reading a book, and there were no boobies in those books, lol.

On the other hand I'm going to check my expectations at the door the moment the game starts and let the game and my choices take me wherever they're going to. Hope that makes sense.

I really want to try out the demo which is suppose to release soon, but I don't even think I'll have a ps3 to play it on.

My ps3 just turned off on me and I'm hoping to god that it just overheating and not not a ylod. Right now I really am questioning the ps3 failure rate. Ive had it for only 6 months(my first one lasted me 2 years and 5 months), and it's my SECOND ONE.

Sorry for going (way) off topic, but right now I am really upset, and I question whether I should even go with another ps3 if my current one gives in.

I'm expecting a decent story, possibly some new innovations and some top notch graphics.

Oddly enough, I feel the need to expect some actual gameplay as well. I'm not sure how much of that will be made available in this game.

I have a feeling that Heavy Rain is going to be my fav game next year. What I love about it is the unique story-telling, the difference between the four playable characters, the way they all intertwine, love the graphics as well (don't think they're Uncharted 2's level though) & the fact that if a character dies, the game continues. What other game does that for you?

I hope it somehow manages to be fun but I've watched everything I've come across and haven't seen any actual mechanics besides QTE's. Which means I have to hope the story will be good and long enough to make up for it.

Last video I saw was trying to make me care about this son but the scripting was much worse than the other scenes. By the end I wanted that kid to get killed, he was so annoying.

I loved (and still love) 'Omikron' and 'Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy', Quantic Dream's previous efforts. They were both wonderful experiences and forward-thinking steps in the universe of video games.
And I expect 'Heavy Rain' to take the foundation built with 'Fahrenheit' and create one of the most involving experiences to grace any medium.
Perhaps my expectations are exceedingly high, but 'Heavy Rain' was one of the main reasons I put so much money down for a PS3 at launch date.
I have a lot of faith in David Cage's vision, and Sony's support is really very encouraging.

deep storyline, ethical choices and hopefully livable controls.
watching some videos i get the feeling the controls are going to bug the sh*t out of me but ill get use to it.
they cant be as bad as dark void.
only thing thats got me a little concerned is how there going to handle the deaths.
hopefully they have a replay section like resistance 2 so you can go back to every part of the game at the flick of the switch.
if i die and have to start the whole game all over again just to find out what would of happened if i did not die im going to be seriously pissed!
i know there trying to make the game realistic, to try and strike emotions in the player.
but their forgetting one thing.
ITS A GAME!
and a games number one purpose is to be fun!
now what part about dieing and having to restart the whole game all over again just to find out what would of happened if you did not die sounds like fun?
none, to me every part of that sounds infuriating!

I am expecting a game on the same level as Fahrenheit with more depth and better graphics.

If it is anything like Fahrenheit it will instantly be in my top 5 for the year and the year just started. I don't expect it to get GOTY because the genre this is really is like a niche market in the same way cult classics are to films. I don't see a ton of people falling in love with the game but the ones that do will love it above most games.

I am interested in this game for many reasons and am intrigued in so many ways. The story was the first thing that got me interested. I want to see how well the story plays out and if I will continue to be interested as I delve deeper and deeper into it. What will happen because of my choices? Will I be shocked? Will I have certain emotions evoked much in the same manner that movies can do?

I want to be drawn in and basically become immersed by the experience. Watching the gameplay videos has sparked a renewed interest but given me a familiar feeling that has me almost aching to "feel" this gaming experience. It's as if I'm a child again, wanting to look at every detail, listen to every word spoken, and not wanting to miss any details that may help me along this journey.

I don't want to find myself expecting too much out of this but I find it very hard not to. Will I be let down by this experience? I don't know but I am willing to find out; good or bad.

My wife will be playing this game with me because I want her to see just what a video game can do so yes, I guess I am expecting a lot. I just hope she doesn't get so drawn in that she'd want to start using the PS3 and invade my personal game time. ūüėČ

I'm expecting a game that doesn't rely on fast-paced action to grab my attention. I'm expecting a game that shifts the player's focus away from mindless button-mashing, to thoughtful and specific QTEs which causes for a more sincere and heart-racing experience. When combined with the no gameover aspect of Heavy Rain, births a new and unique experience for every player and play-through. I want a game heavily driven by story. I want a mystery to solve, I want murders, I want to feel what the characters are feeling (the emotion), I want to put on Madison's make-up. Wait…that didn't come out right…But seriously, this game is like my dream game come true. GOW3, DI, FF13, WKC, B2, LR, and all those other games coming out are on standby for this title. There's just too much to love here with Heavy Rain. Choices…yes…that's another biggie.
