Castlevania Animated Series Announced for Netflix

So you have probably already heard about it, and it is not exactly "gaming" news, but I think it is worth a good discussion.

A Castlevania animated series has been announced for Netflix, with a first seasons scheduled to be released on July 7, 2017, and a second seasons sometime in 2018. You can watch the trailer below:

The trailer starts off with a scene of someone inserting a Castlevania game cartridge into a NES and scrolling through some of Netflix’s already successful series. Afterwards, we are treated to the actual footage of the series, with a style that seems to be modeled after authentic Japanese anime.

As per Netflix, the official synopsis reads as follows:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.

The show will be produced by Frederator studios, home to some already iconic TV shows, such as The Fairly Oddparents , and Adventure Time . Adi Shankar will serve as its showrunner.

Personally, I’m pumped for this. Netflix has a good track record of producing high quality shows; although the company has had its misses, I think this could be pretty good. As a fan, I have always thought that Castlevania could benefit more from a full fledged series than a film. Being a fan of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust , which seems to take on a similar, gothic style, I have some expectations. (By the way, if you are into vampire, gothic, dark fantasy, VHD:B is a film I highly recommend.)

Sadly, videogame-based adaptations haven't gotten the treatment they deserve, especially in feature films, but who knows, we'll have to wait and see.

What do you think? Does this seem like your cup of tea? Will this be another success, or a total flop?
