Will You Invest More Money In Destiny?

The game is out, the reviews are in, and the moon dust won't settle for awhile.

While we wait for that, how about a non-partisan question for those who have adopted Bungie's newest game: after having some time with the experience do you plan to invest more money in it?

A simple question yes but there are, as with any investment, a few points to take into account. I say investment because Destiny plans to live for 10 long years and that will take time on your part, dedication (without being sidetracked by other multiplayer FPS), and of course getting the most out of the $60 you already spent.

Destiny isn't some crowd hated free-to-play venture with more microtransactions than bullets. We expect to get a darn good experience for what we paid. I even dared to hope that should I choose to ignore all future monetary expansions I might still see some free content love from Bungie to keep me coming back. It is a game where we paid for a promise after all.

In any case the DLC is already on the horizon. With The Dark Below in December and House of Wolves some time in 2015, an Expansion Pass for both will cost you about $35. Using this as a benchmark let's just pretend we will get two expansions per year minimum at $17.50 a pop. Adding the original $60 over the course of a ten year investment you can expect to pay over $400 on this game by the time it peters out.

Most people probably can't make that big of a decision at this point but it does raise the question "How much time and money am I willing to put into this?" which begs another question, "How big of an online FPS gamer am I?" Most people seem to be focused on just how fun it is to play with friends, so the next question has to be , "Are my friends the kinds of gamers that will stick with this thing?"

There is much to consider before spending money yes? I'm having a blast with the game right now as it is but I have yet to see anything that would make me want to spend more around the holidays when many other games will have relegated Destiny to the proverbial back page of the news. Hopefully it will grow enough for the initial investors to want to spend more, but perhaps it has already wowed you enough to decide.

Will you spend more money on Destiny based on what you've seen so far?

I am! I'm gonna do both of the already announced DLC's.

EDIT: We're still waiting on IGN's review too. They've really taken their time in playing the game for a more proper review. I'm curious what they have to say because of this.

I find it somewhat interesting that the majority of the sites that raced and powered through the game to get their reviews up first were also from the sites that rated it the lowest.

seriously. you delete every Sept. 10th (the day after?), 11th, and 12th review and I'm pretty sure the avg rockets over 80 percent.
I'll probably calculate it to know for sure.

done. it goes to a 78.2 percent without those days. And yes, Gamespot's becomes the single lowest score of them all at that point.

I don't usually have wonderful things to say about IGN but I praise them for that.

Knowing IGN, they were probably waiting for the check to clear.

Yep, I already have 58hrs in the game have all Legendary gear with an Exotic Handcannon and Helmet.

I love my handcannon, I'm only on the cusp of level 10 but I got it up to 99 power. Kapow! Headshots galore. I especially like picking off Acolyte heads.

Handcannons are BRUTAL if you can get good with them I have a level 16 with Explosive ammunition! Sadly it is now VERY outclassed and have not found another one with explosive rounds. =(

The explosive affect is awesome! There is first the regular hit then splash damage that hits the main target for half the first hit's damage as well as those extremely close to the target then roughly a quarter of the damage for those nearby.

Mine is Thorn. I really want Hawkmoon which is the Playstation exclusive handcannon.

Nice Shaunee, I made lvl 20 a bit ago and also did Mar's Strike mission. What's your best advice to getting armor with high Light stats to boost my levels from here?

Well I believe all the farming methods got patched such as the Nexus I only learned about it about an hour before it got patched! XD

So the next best method would likely be Skirmish in the Crucibl,e you really need two buddies to play this mode with though, but you get 1 or 2 rares just about every match and you have a fairly good chance of getting Legendary engrams, seems to be roughly 1 in 10 matches.

If you have nobody to team up with Rumble is probably your next best bet.

Rare gear maxes out at 15 Light BTW even after upgrading I believe a full set of Blue will get you to just under level 25.

Yeah it's too bad that Legendary engrams don't guarantee Legendary or Exotic items 🙁

I can't believe a legendary engram can give Uncommon items (green).

Yeah to actually get a Legendary from a Legendary engram seems to only be around 30%. = Least it keeps things rare and LMAO I got a Second Exotic bounty after just finishing my first last night when I turned in my first bounty today!

Bad Juju here I come!!!

I won't have to for a while at least. I bought the Digital Guardian Edition and I am glad I did. Played for 4 more hours tonight and finished off the Moon!! Fantastic play with a fire team. The strike was an absolute blast! Taking a break until tomorrow. I am now level 16 and will be visiting Venus tomorrow. Really wish I could play The Vault of Glass! I love a challenge.

Took the first clan 14hrs to beat the Raid…..

yea, if raids get anywhere more than like an hour, maybe two, I can't do them. Too much time. Because so far, I love how the game lets a guy like me who hates the slow grind and longwinded raids of your typical MMO, to be able to 'get in and get out.'
Not enough props being given to Destiny for that.

Hey Temjin, you don't actually have to complete the Raid in one sitting, it saves the progress of that fireteam. So as long as you guys go back into it with the same Fireteam leader, than you can pick up where you left off.

Although it only saves for one week. (Server refresh is every Tuesday)

I hate it how the 'edit' button goes away….

I only just realized Shauneepeak said 14 hours haha. That's too much even for a week of playing casually.

Didn't Prime Guard report they had beaten the Raid 10 hours after it opened?

If the DLC is good, yes I'll buy it, if not, there's a lot of other good games I'll be playing this fall so no big deal.

I might get the DLC but I'm going to wait to hear feedback from people who get it.

I am kind of bummed that they planned that DLC first though considering the 70 dollar game doesn't feel 100% complete to me at least.

They need to work on making existing bosses more interesting, making new free bosses, and making more patrol missions, and in general adding more fun and varied things to do in the world.

I expect all of this stuff to be free because these are things that could be done in an update.

If the DLC adds a lot of value this might be the first DLC I buy, but again it has to be something worth it. I will not buy it if they don't fix balance and tweak the core game itself. I'm not going to give them more money if the vanilla game is still not up to snuff.

The thing I questioned, is that there was some scenes from the early trailers that are not in the game. Entire environments removed.

You can say that is normal for an early reveal, HOWEVER, some of those environments are still in the game, but are sealed away. There is an underground hanger sort of looking place that people found by using a glitch in the Beta, it was in the original trailer populated with Guardian's. Looked like another explorable area like the Tower.

Oh hey man, I only just read the new comments from the review.

I haven't really added many from PSXE before because the majority of the community is from the US.

I'm in Australia 🙁

Playing it till Evil Within comes out.

Next year Destiny is replaced by even more games. Its fun for now, but nothing I plan on spending 10 years playing.

Considering that effectively I didn't pay for destiny (it was bundled with my ps4 at the same price as if I just bought the ps4) I will spend more money on it. Want to try the other classes out sooner or later, but have to finish the story first with my warlock!

I got the special edition with the 2 DLC included so, as of now, I won't be spending more money though *technically* I already have.

I, too, like the handcannon. I had a rare one I was using for a bit and it lops off heads like it's going out of style. I should be hitting 20 soon and hopefully I can start getting some better gear.

Depends on what my sons are doing.

My older one has the new Lord of the Rings game coming out and my youngest is addicted to Minecraft.

Me? I am still playing Ace Combat Infinity and will be content to do so if they choose to pass on the DLC for Destiny.

I bought the limited edition so I already paid for the expansions. At this time I don't regret it at all.

Even with the repetitive missions and the nearly non-existant story Destiny is extremely addictive and some of the most fun I've ever had.

Absolutely.

Although I got the season pass with the LE. So I'm already set up.

ALSO: We need to see more articles from you David! 😀 Love your work man.

Already bought the Guardian Edition that comes with the Season Pass so I don't think I'll be spending more this year. But yes, I can see me buying whatever new DLC is coming out (maps and usable content only tho, not skins and Glimmer)

Oh, yeah. Definitely spending. It's one of the fastest way to support not just the developers, but the community as well. More funds (to cool and hip developers) = technically more and better features/fixes/etc.
